I was recently accepted to the Walnut Hill summer theatre program and I plan on going this summer. Has anyone out there been a part of the program and can you tell me all about it? I'm curious about your overall experience, but also just little things like dorm life and food and silly things like that... thanks a bunch!

I know a young girl (13, I think) who is going and is very excited about Walnut Hill. It sounds like a wonderful place. If you are looking for a contact, I would be glad to forward your email. Not sure how old you are.

I got accepted three weeks ago, and I'm totally excited!

I haven't been before, so I wouldn't be much help, but I have met a couple of people who have been, and they say maybe it looks terrifying, but they say it's a blast. =)

60 days!

I know several kids who are full-time students at Walnut Hill and a few others who have attended the summer program. The summer kids all said that by the end of the program, they didn't want to leave...several of them even applied to stay full-time. Natick is beautiful and the campus is very nice...and the dorms that I've seen look comfortable enough. The productions, though not quite on the same scale as the ones that are put on during the school year, are very well-done. I think you're in for a great summer!

thanks so much for the input! Most of the people I've talked to have said the same thing so I'm glad to be hearing good things :-). thanks again!

Hi there,

so I went to WH this summer, and I just thought I'd give a little bit of a scoop on how it was. I absolutely LOVED it!!! I was in two shows, "The Cell" a play about nuns, and "Once On This Island" both of which were excellent, if I do say so myself. All of the kids there are totally passionate about theatre, and everyone is willing to work hard, yet at the end of the day, we played hard too. You take two elective classes along with the shows, I took Jazz and Directing, both of which were fun. I would say the electives could have been a bit more comprehensive, but I had a blast taking them, and I feel like I know more than when I started which is a plus. The days are looong and tiring (close to 10 hours of rehearsal a day, not including electives) but so so so so rewarding. All of the faculty members have your best interests in mind, and are super knowledgable about everything from performance techinque to succeeding in the real world. They understand that we are kids, but definitely push us to our full potential. My music director got me to sing notes that I never knew I had, and the director of my play brought me to a level of focus in my acting that I never thought I could reach. Theatre facilities are awesome, with full professional tech staff and orchestra to support us. They definitely treat us like professionals and for the most part all the students rise to that expectation.

As far as dorms and stuff go, the dorms are nice. I was lucky enough to have a single room, so I had a lot of space to myself, but most people have double or triple rooms which provide a little less space, but still comfortable. The buildings are kept up well, and the campus is absolutely pristine and gorgeous and peaceful. Food is pretty good. Not quite home cooking, but definitely above average for a school cafeteria type setting. Also, we took trips into boston on the weekend which gave us a chance to get away for a bit and unwind and see the beautiful city. They were awesome! That's the best wasy to describe them haha.

Overall, as you can see, it was was a fantastic summer. I highly reccomend it to anyone who is serious about theatre and is looking for an exciting summer. It is definitely challenging but I feel I have grown leaps and bounds just from this one summer.

And, as we liked to joke, "This dorm building will burn down in less than two minutes."

:P

That probably wasn't true, but it sure got us out of there during the fire drills.
