^see above^

according to another thread on why pins and updating the self service site are taking so long, people have called and been told they got an "exceptionally large applicant pool"

From the way they're taking so long to sort the applications out, I think it's safe to assume that this year's pool is significantly larger. Ouch. Someone told me that Harvard's EA pool decreased, however; this can't be a good sign.

Why would this be a bad thing, just out of curiosity? I think it's great for the school! Of course it will be more competitive, but then those who get in can say, "yeah, I got in, even with the 6.7% acceptance rate." Hahaha, just relax people. It's out of our control now. If we're gonna get in, we're gonna get in. If not, there's obviously a reason. Life will go on for all of us, even if it does not include attending Cornell in the fall of 2006.

It would be nice to get in though, don't you think? Especially if you don't particularly enjoy filling out more college applications.

Yeah, totally!! I have wanted to go to Cornell since I was in 8th grade!! Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to go to Cornell. I was just saying that if the admissions board says "eh, we don't need another one of those students" when they get to my app, maybe I can apply transfer or something next year, but life will go on, ya know?

But yes, it would be AWESOME to get into Cornell. :)

I got ya. Don't worry about me, I won't kill myself if I don't get in. :)

Well that's good! lol

I give you my best!

you won't kill yourself, but I will.

think about it this way. if you get rejected u'll get rejected from one of the best colleges in the country. best luck to everyone. fingers crossed

well, I can't think of it that way. I mean...if you're rejected, you're rejected. There's really nothing you can do to make yourself feel better. Being rejected from one of the best colleges in the country is still...rejection. Yeah, I'm trying to be very, very pessimistic so that when the results come in...I can either be nicely surprised or expecting the worst.

lol. but u already did the best you could up to this point. it's not up to you anymore. you have no control over it anymore. now u can just prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best

is it true that they received 250 more ED applications this year? i remember reading that number in an earlier post

12% increase in engineering according to mark, director of undergrad eng. admissions. he stated this in the chat yesterday

So basically, the engineer school already has made their decisions, right?

no...the engineering school hasn't necessarily done that...they've necessarily counted all their apps...

i don't think they'll reject more people. probably more people deferred :-/

plus, you have to keep in mind that the next couple of years to decade is going to see the biggest boom in adolescences (the adolescents in this gen is BIGGER than the baby boomers) so there's always going to be an increase in application each year as more high schoolers are trying to finish high school and the importance of going to college becomes a priority for many more students than in the past. Not only that, the strengths of the average students (grades, scores, E.C, etc) is probably going to rise, and that just compounds to the increasing difficulty of gaining acceptance into a prestigious university. Despite the greater population, I don't see many universities, especially private, increasing their student body any time soon. that could mean the acceptance rate is doomed to fall. the first half is truth, the second half is speculation. take it as you will.

Quynh

Whoa, what about the engineering school? Uuuugh, I don't like the sound of that...!

my god....12 % increase in engineering.........wut a bad news....................................=.=///////

has anyone heard anything about ILR apps?
