Oh, my son’s letter does not say priority waitlist, so he doesn’t have a chance then.

Just out of curiosity, what were your son’s stats? What other schools has he gotten into?

Thanks. This has been a gut-wrenching process, this is the 4th rejection/waitlist at what was supposed to be a target school, and according to naviance, he was in the middle of the pack as far as his chances at Loyola and a shoo-in at the others.

The final 2 schools we haven’t heard from are reaches.

It’s looking like he will only be accepted to 2 out of the 8 he applied to, both safety schools that he doesn’t want to attend.

Haha, I got waitlisted. Not sure how, 66% acceptance rating according to collegeboard and my stats are well above their 75th percentiles.

I’m not sure how: 2180 SAT/34 ACT/90 GPA w/ AP and Honors Courses/4 year ECs with dedication + extensive community service

I will not be accepting a spot on the waitlist. Good luck everyone!

My son goes to a catholic school in Ma. He had alot of AP and honors classes was involved in many clubs and football.Accepted at Fairfield,Loyola-New Orleans,Xavier,St.Joseph’s,Lemoyne and Canisius. Waiting for Providence and Rollins. His 1st choice= Loyola Maryland,2nd=Providence. The wait continues!Good Luck and hang in there.

WHAT???

BC, I am shocked, I don’t blame you for not staying on the waitlist, I’m sure you’ll get into better schools. I hope you get into BC, that’s my son’s one reach (or it was supposed to be, but considering that he’s only gotten into his safety’s, it appears that all his supposed targets were reaches).

There is something rotten in Denmark when they waitlist someone with your stats.

I feel like we’ve been totally misled by naviance, collegeboard, etc., etc.

Ugh I hate colleges. I really wanted to go here too. Thanks Loyola and Loyola Marymount for ruining my dreams.

Massachooz, Providence mails out their letters tomorrow.

My son desperately wanted Loyola or Providence (BC is an unrealistic long shot and he knows it).

We’ve lost all hope of him getting into PC (and definitely not BC). Supposedly PC is more selective than Loyola.

He should have applied to more “safety” schools.

Priority Waitlisted…
Crazy!!
My son has good stats so I am in shock…
He got into some good schools and waitlisted at Loyola…plzz

Bear with me, I’m just venting here but, are there really that many more students going to college this year or are people just applying to tons of colleges with no intention of going?

How is it possible that all these applications seem to be increased 20%. or more from last year? There can’t be 20% more HS graduates, can there?

Thanks ctmom,

I’m not worried about it though, Loyola Maryland is a nice school but it was toward the bottom of my list – maybe they sensed that ;)

I’ve already been accepted at SUNY Geneseo ($10k + honors invite) American University ($20k + honors program), and Pitt ($10k) and Northeastern ($10k). :P

Oh well, best of luck to your son with his search!

GC mom, at least he got into other good schools, that’s something. My son’s choices are currently 2 schools, UVM and Bryant.

If you don’t mind my asking, where else was he accepted?

I feel your pain and don’t understand what’s going on either. Your son has impressive stats and should have been admitted. Is it that competitive a year? It’s possible there is a mistake. If not, perhaps Loyola falling into the same “Tufts syndrome” game that Villanova has gone through - rejecting highly qualified applicants because they think they won’t attend?

BC, you’ve got some excellent options there. Wow, accepted at American with a 20K package and waitlisted at Loyola? American is a much better school.

That makes NO SENSE.

I am curious if this is a need blind school…
I wonder if applicants not applying for financial aid got in…
Just a thought

Kelly, it does seem that Loyola is becoming an “it” school. I frankly had never heard of it then all of a sudden everyone wants to go there…I’m tempted to call PC and beg them, before the mail goes out. Someone talk me out of it!

GC, we did not apply for Financial Aid nor would we get it.

We are prepared to pay every last penny of the 210K it would cost, so that probably has nothing to do with it.

Sure.
My son was accepted to Geneseo, Fordham,UCONN ,URI,Albany, Siena, Cortland.
Waiting on Binghamton, gettyburg and vassar.
I live in NY…

Fordham’s a great school.

I never heard of Geneseo?

It’s awesome that your son wasn’t rejected anywhere. He must be very proud.

Kids do get in off the wait list, especially since so many of them are applying to 10 schools or more and colleges are having a hard time predicting who’s coming and who is not. If Providence doesn’t work out, it may be worth it to accept a spot on the wait list, then have him send a letter expressing how much he wants to attend and listing any additional honors or awards, an additional teacher recommendation, and an updated transcript.

My son’s letter said 10,800 applications for 1,025 spots.

Geneseo is a TOP state school here in NY. We are going to see it on Mar 31.
