reidm, you go it? please

hey valuable, I applied to Scripps from out of state. I applied for a scholarship, though, and I'll only go if I get it. Good luck to you!

Hey!
What state are you in? I didnt apply for the scholarship in time although I do not think I would have recieved one since my stats are not at the high end of the percentile. Have you visited at all? I am applying ED2. What is your view on Scripps? what major are you interested in?

I'm from CT. I haven't visited yet, mostly cause its such a long trip, and I'm not looking at any other schools in the area. I am most interested in the linguistics major done through Pitzer and Pomona, which Scripps girls can do. However, if I don't get the $, I won't go, and even if I do, I still might not go, just because I really don't want to be so far from home (I applied early to a school that is 45 minutes from my house)

Since your in CT have you looked into Trinity? I havent seen it but I am interested, any view points on it?

sorry I can't help - I know almost nothing about it.

Whereabouts are you from? Obv since you're ED you'll be going to scripps if accepted - what attracted you? What do you want to study? Are you looking at any other all-girls schools (I am, but only one: Wellesley)?

I actually had applied ED to Wellesley, but then changed it to EA, so we seem to have some interests in common :) Im from South Jersey and I like Scripps CORE Program and the interaction between the 5 C's. Also I like that its strong in languages/humanities and in South California with a beautiful campus(although I have only seen pictures). I decided to change from ED to EA with Wellelsey because I wasnt sure if I liked the student body, the academics might have been suffocating yes I know you should want that but I dont want to graduate with gray hair from all the stress and all nighters and I think even though it is very close to Boston it was a little too seclusive for me. Overall, Scripps is a better match for me and my application to Wellesley should have been thought out more. Thank god I had time to change it before decisions come out! What other schools do you like? (PS: i applied EA to Pitzer too ;) )

In my post below, help me narrow down my list, I mention the other schools I'm considering applying to. As of now, I'm looking at BC, Colgate, Dartmouth, Duke, Georgetown, Middlebury, Notre Dame, Princeton, Scripps, Tufts, UConn, U of Delaware, UNC - Chapel Hill, University of Richmond, Wellesley, William & Mary, and Yale (SCEA). But, as I say, this is too many, and I will not end up applying to all of them. I'm trying now to decide which ones not to apply to. I'm fairly certain I'm going to drop UConn and Delaware. 15 though is still too many.

Where else are you looking?

ANYONE WHO READS THIS...I AM NOT BEING JUDGEMENTAL OR LABELING ANY OF THE SCHOOLS STUDENT BODIES...JUST LISTING WHAT I KNOW/HEARD....

BC- my friend applied here and is pretty religious- not sure if the whole school is strict catholic like he is but something to think about if your not into the whole religion scene

Dartmouth- have a friend whos older sister goes to Dartmouth- except for the fact that it gets really cold she told me she partied with her sister there and that all the guys are drop dead gorgeous Abercrombie looking rugby players hehe so something to consider :) By the way she got in ED to Dartmouth with a 1550

Georgetown- I considered GTown but I heard its very very very Preppy/Catholic and its the type of schools girls wear highheels/dress up
on campus 24/7 (according to my friend who went to an open house)

Middlebury- great on languages and I heard the campus is breathtaking- as long as you dont mind being in the middle of nowhere then its a great school. also Middlebury is ultra-prep too.

Princeton- well I live in NJ and my dad helped build the children library attached to Princeton he works with building so atleast I can tell you the campus is beautiful. But honestly, maybe its because I am from NJ, I wouldnt want to go to school in this state hehe...I am trying to go far...far..away!

Tufts- Friend has an older brother at Tufts. She has partied with him a few times and told me its a bunch of preppy white kids just trying to get girls drunk and party hard while studying hard. Again, preppy and a "safety" school for Ivy rejects. He is actually transfering out to Emory this year :(

UConn- friend who does Crew is in love with UConn, you should also look at UMass, both very nice schools with decent programs bill cosby is alumni at UMass... :)

U of Delaware- Since i am in NJ, UDelaware gets applied to by almost 30 kids in my school a year. Definitely a gorgeous campus, great academics, intersting dorm setup, and campus activities are extensive. If you like Delaware I definitely recommend it financially and academically. Thing is, every year the out of state admissions are getting tougher..If you had high SATs the honors program is exceptional and you cant go wrong there.

UNC - Chapel Hill-one of those schools impossible out of state. According to my guidance advisor, they create guidelines for out of state admissions *example applicant must be in top 10%, must be above 1350, must have a GPA 3.7 etc. I am not sure how much truth there is to that but thats what I have been told since out of state and UNC is really competitive. My friend just got a full ride there for gymnastics and she said the gym girls they recruited her with for a weekend were awesome, so I havent really heard anything bad yet...

Not sure what your majoring in, but maybe take a good look at UVa(if your stats are exceptional *ur looking at Princeton so...hehe), , UWisconsin (Madison), the UCs and Florida State. All are very good state schools.

You May like Sarah Lawrence and Bryn Mawr for all girls

As of UNDERRATED/more unheard of liberal art schools that I think are worth looking at:, I read alot on Furman, Hendrix, Colorado College, Conn. College(have a friend whose brother chose Conn. College over Duke and loves it), Colby, Bates, and Bowdoin (If your looking for nice cold Maine schools)

I am looking/applying to
Bucknell
Tulane
Pitzer(EA)
Wellesley (Early Evaluation)
Scripps(ED)
Trinity
Occidental
Rhodes
Drew (in state safety)

My stats probably arent as high as yours since your looking at Ivys but its my final, truncated list hehe

My dd is thinking of Scripps too. She's from Cali tho and would rather go out of state. But she just said she'd rather go to Scripps than a UC. Scripps did a very nice presentation that impressed her. She also is applying to Wellesley and Smith. She only overlaps Kit with 2 schools. Kit, most of you schools are soooo much bigger than scripps, it seems the odd school out.

it is the odd school out. I really only applied because they encouraged me to apply for a full scholarship including tuition, room, board, and flight costs, which, if i get it, might be enough of an incentive to go. I don't mind that its small b/c of the other 4 schools. The thing I do mind is that its so far away!

Kit do you know if Scripps pays for East Coast kids plane rides home? Some on CC posted something like that but not sure if it was just a rumor? maybe only if you get a scholarship they pay like that?

theres a scholarship, the New Generation Scholarship or somesuch, the one I'm applying for, in which they do. Everyone else, I believe, pays her own way.

is the deadline over?

yup. It was november 1st. sorry :(
