Anybody else think Alan Rickman is strangely attractive?

I know this is an odd topic but I am among that weird but unnaturally large group of girls who swoon over Alan Rickman. I have found that most girls walked out of HP and the Sorcerer's Stone, and each consecutive movie, thinking, "Who is that Prof. Snape?"

It's so odd how many are out there. He has like more fan pages than Brad Pitt. There is this dreamy mystical kind of thing about him that makes him incredibly desirable regardless of his now 60 years of age. It's crazy but he doesn't look it! And it helps to see him in the black wig as Snape.

Of particular note is the shot of him standing over Barty Crouch Jr. recently in Goblet of Fire at the very end where he is holding his wand to him. The way the upward close-up had him leering at Crouch was enough to make me shiver. It was the look on his face, just the way it was framed, his black costume, the dreary black/blue lighting . . . it all conspired to make him look younger and so good. Or as some girls put it on his fan sites, "yummy."

In fact, if you picture him in costume as Snape, but only in the buttoned coat and pants, not with the heavy billowy cloak, that costume makes him look so good. It must be the fact that he is the so-called "bad boy" of the series. He takes the greasy, cunning, sallow-faced Snape of the books and makes him a dream visitor of women's minds at night. And DO NOT get me started on his voice: chocolate velvet, that is how I describe it.

I mean, anybody remember him as Hans Gruber? Oh golly he looked so wonderful in that. The prim, pricey suit, the cunning wit and intelligence. He was so enticing. And then his performane in Rasputin---if the ORIGINAL Rasputin, with his creepy, skin-crawling eyes made you want to run and stay clear of him, RICKMAN'S version of the mad monk made you want to get close and never leave his side. And again, more wit in Dogma with the excellent side burns and fearless ability to drop trow on camera for the sake of a hearty laugh.

And the mother of all to-die-for moments in his career, Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensibility. Who wouldn't want to have a love-starved man with Rickman's voice and his gorgeous amber eyes doing anything to earn your love in return? And the way he spoke so quietly--complete iconographic gentleman; all men should strive to be like Rickman's Col. Brandon.

And then we come to Awfully Big Adventure: the movie that any young girl who fancies him would enjoy. Imagine: physically he looked great for being 47 or thereabouts; he spent the whole movie looking anguished, which only made him adorable; he can dance; he wears his sleeves too long, knows it, and therefore he looks cute in his clothing; he plays Captain Hook in the movie for a time; and there is an interesting few scenes with the lead actress (who is supposed to be 16 but was played by a 21 year old) where they, "hook up," at his flat. Come to find out, he "hooked up" a few times, with his biological daughter that he never knew he had. Entirely traumatizing to him that he ends up nearly fainting, slips off a dock, hits his head and drowns. But again, the scenes where he's "in bed" are rather "yummy" as some have put it. It's a good movie despite the taboo incest subject. It's British, so you need an open mind.

Again, did I mention his voice is like chocolate velvet? I don't know, post all you want about it. I'll bet there's a few girls on CC who are oddly taken by him too. Don't even get me started on what he is like as a normal person. He is extremely intelligent and wise, is a Pisces like me, so bonus points for being a perfectionist yet lazy, a dreamy dreamer. And he seems to be riotously funny and extremely sweet and cute in a shy, adorable way. You should have seen his appearance on The View from a few years back. Adorable.

Post away girls!

Um, sorry, no...

You are either a girl in the minority or a guy.

It's an odd thing but I didn't realize I was strangley attracted to the guy until I was watching Sense and Sensibility last year and I completely fell for the way he portrayed Brandon. He strikes me as being like that in real life. And I like the quiet, dreamy, powerful type men. And his presence in the Potter movies adds quite a bit to the "strange mysterious attraction."

Eww

Ten characters.

i think he's old and ugly. like snape. good casting, i suppose.

Ehh. Good actor, but no attraction whatsoever.

I don't think most girls are in love with him. It's a minority thing. (Maybe majority if you're asking the HP fan crowd.)

He is nasty. And you spent an incredibly long time talking about him.

I first read this at 2am this morning,
and it was disturbing then...

but...

It is hilarious now!

No offense : ) My full kudos to you.
I did Google him - not as many hits as brad pitt,
but, still a lot, surprisingly.

i also think he's strangely attractive, though NOT in HP. i like him in sense&sensibility and some other movie that i've forgotten

I found him strangely attractive in Love Actually, but not at all in HP. And I think that it was more about power and infidelity than anything else in the former movie.

yess- love actually was the movie i was talking about :p

hah i completely agree with you... not so much physical attraction for me, but that voice does do things to you! and he definitely has a charisma on screen that makes you remember him- i thought he was absolutely hilarious is GoF too :)

I know someone in school who spends all of her time writing love stories about Snape...now I have jsut figured out why. (Naturally, she is an HP freak.)

he actually looks very good for his age. he just turned 60 ( in which I just kind of said.... no way). He does have excellent charisma and captures the viewers attention on camera

he was hilarious at the 4th movie... but i don't find him attractive, sadly. he has the bad guy thing going on, but it irritates me whenever he speaks, cause he hardly opens his mouth.

I LOVE ALAN RICKMAN.

I think he's really sexy. THAT VOICE. That voice is absolutely amazing.

He was the only character I loved in "Love Actually" (whose wife, funnily, was played by Emma Thompson--aka Prof. Trelawney of the HP series).

^^ hint hint! maybe they'll end up together in the movie!

"You are either a girl in the minority or a guy."

I don't think I'm the former (see kchen's post), and I'm most certainly not the latter. :) But at least you aren't alone- I have a couple friends who are into the whole Alan Rickman thing. Ew...

If you want proof of how many women are turned on by him, check the Community Cafe thingy on CC as well as Parents Cafe, and Google Rickmanista. It's scary how big a fan base he has. I wrote that all last night at midnight. My problem is I type fast and I know a lot of his movies I can comment on. I think for me it's just the voice and the way he captures your attention on screen. I'm more the George Clooney, dark-haired, David Boreanaz, Clive Owen type. Yes, older guys, but hey, at least they're mature compared to most "boys" I go to school with. That's the attraction factor. Maturity. For Rickman, it's just the voice and the charm onscreen. And his wit. He has great comic timing.

He's a really great actor, and I admire him for that, but I wouldn't go so far as to call that "love".

I just saw him as Metatron in the movie Dogma a couple days ago. (Wonderful, wonderful movie, by the way.) And he was wonderful as Colonel Brandon in S&S. Makes a great Snape as well.
