Anybody go to U Maryland??

I'm considering going there -- i'm really interested. I have family in the area, so I know its really close to D.C. (my favorite place in the world)
So what I want to know is how is thr transportation between U Maryland and D.C.?
Do students there even go to D.C. a lot, or do they just stay on campus?

i want to know all about the campus. is the school frat crazy? a party school? hows the food? how are the dorms? ETC.

I’m going there right now. I transferred in after a fall semester at another school.

Transportation between UMCP and DC is great. We’ve got a free shuttle that goes from the center of campus (in front of Stamp Student Union) to the College Park metro station. From there it’s about a 20 minute ride to the interesting parts of DC.

I haven’t met tons of people yet, but from my observations people don’t seem to go down to DC a ton. Which is a shame, because the rest of DC is so much better than College Park.

The food at The Diner (AKA the cafeteria) is ok, nothing amazing but it’s pretty cheap so I can’t complain. There are a few chains in the Student Union which is closer to a lot of class buildings… I go there a lot. McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Panda Express, Sbarro and some other thing. The DC area has great restaurants though… so check them out when you go into town, or when you live off-campus.

I’ve lived in this area pretty much my whole life. There are a ton of things I can find to complain about it, but for the most part I could see myself living here for most if not all my life.

Where do you live?

i live in Jersey. Its a small town called Carteret. But its about 5 minutes from Woodbridge, and 30 minutes from Newark if that helps.
I’m actually going to visit the school while i’m on spring break.
If i went there, I would definitely take advantage of D.C. and all that it has to offer.
But f the students aren’t going to D.C., what do they do? Whats the social scene?
And by the way, whats your major?

Cool.

A lot of students seem to hang out on most weekdays, and then go to parties on party days (Thursdays and weekends). A lot of people on my floor go to bars… and I guarantee none of 'em are over 21, which means fake IDs :stuck_out_tongue: frankly I’m just not that into that sorta stuff. Hopefully I can meet some folks who think similarly.

I’m undecided right now. I’m considering something in business (supply chain management or accounting… SCM seems more interesting but accounting basically guarantees a job) and maybe double majoring in criminal justice. I’m considering going into law enforcement after college, and I hear a CJ degree helps give understanding of the law enforcement process (but not law enforcement tactics and such). But since it’s so limited, I don’t want to be stuck with a narrow degree should law enforcement not pan out for me.
