How is it? I've never taken a theatre class at UCR. What are they like? Do you actually have to act or is it more like watching plays and stuff? I'm an undeclared major at CHASS so I'm just trying learn more about each major.

I took the intro/beginning theater class when I was at UCR, Professor Brophy (he’s now the head of the theater program at CalTech) It was not hard compared to my usual Computer Science major courses. There was some reading of plays, learning concepts and classic play interpretations. We had to go see two plays/productions at the UCR Art theater and also another one at a playhouse of our choosing, write about it and attach the ticket stub. For out final, the class was divided into a few groups, we all took a chapter/scene from Shakespeare’s Hamlet and reenact it in front of the class, it was about 30 minutes per group (memorizing lines was a bit difficult for me, especially since it was in Shakespeare lingo).

It was a really fun class and because of it, after about 8 years since that class, I still like watching plays at local colleges and playhouses.
