I'm just curious what other Theatre students are taking.

Go ahead and list the type of degree (BA/BFA) and year you're in, if you'd like.

I'm a freshman studying for a BA and probably double majoring in French. :)

I'm taking:
Theatre 270 Beginning Acting
Theatre 210 Introduction to Theatre Studies
French 309 Reading French Texts
University 101 Student in University
Statistics 110 Introduction to Statistical Reasoning
Music 133 University Band

So only two theatre classes this semester, but I'm really excited about them! I never took a drama class in high school, so I'm looking forward to them.

Going into my sophomore year as a BA, creative writing minor:

Art History
Modern Dance
Teaching Shakespeare (English elective)
Later Shakespeare (English elective that will probably be replaced by an acting class at the same time I’m waitlisted for. This is my back-up)
Geology
Acting Lab
Theatre Practice

most of my school’s sophomore theatre classes are offered in the spring! I’ll be taking Makeup, Scene Study, possibly and hopefully another Shakespeare course (this one for actors) and another dance?

Going into sophomore year at the superior USC as a BA Theatre with musical theatre and film minors.

THTR 211: History and Practice of World Theatre II [we read and study plays from the Renaissance through the 19th century]
ANTH 200g: Origins of Humanity [Anthropology class, gen ed. I’m taking this one pass/no pass because it’s supposed to be a great but difficult class, I’m in 6 other classes, and I’m allowed to take one GE P/NP, so I picked this one]
CTPR 327: Motion Picture Camera [cinematography, through the cinema school, for my film minor]
THTR 252a: Intermediate Acting [first semester of sophomore year acting class, to be continued in the spring with 252b]
THTR 210: Introduction to Theatrical Production, crew track [crewing a show. Should have taken it last year, but I pushed it back]
MPKS 150a: Beginning Keyboard [how to play piano, for my MT minor. I could also have picked music theory or guitar lessons. I will also continue this class with 150b in the spring or at a later date]
MPVA 301: Private Voice [my 2nd out of 3 semesters of voice lessons for my MT minor]

She’s hoping to take private voice lessons and some dance classes, if she can fit them in. She also might look into doing other music, such as choir or jazz band.
There is also a Freshman Production each semester, and they tech for Mainstage (can’t audition for mainstage until sophomore year). They are welcome to be in smaller productions.

D could have added another elective but decided to give herself the breathing space for rehearsal, music, dance, and other ECs, at least this semester. Plus there are many field trips, outings to shows, extra book talks and events through the Honors College, etc. She’s very happy with the balance.

When I get to the school I get to meet with my advisor, and I think I’m going to try adding voice lessons, possibly a music class (music composition would be GREAT), and/or possibly a dance class.

TheatreGuy - I’d be interested in hearing more from you as re UArts; my son will be applying there. We liked it when we visited, but would love to get some first-hand insights from a male in the Acting BFA program.

Sounds great, I’d love to answer any questions you have! PM me whatever/whenever you want, and I’ll get back to you ASAP. I’ll be heading there in about a week and a half too, so hopefully I’ll get a lot more info on certain aspects then =)

My D is a Junior at UCLA in Theatre/Acting specialization. This quarter she has Italian, French Cinema, Movement (2nd year), Voice and Speech (2nd year), and Acting (2nd year). I think that is correct. She is finally starting her foreign language, which she has put off. I’m sure she will also either do her second crew class or a show. She needs one more crew class and one more show.

First Semester she has French, a British history class, First Year Seminar (which is a reading and writing and discussion type of class) about Jane Eyre, Voice, Movement for Actors and a theater design class. I believe that second semester she will take a required theater and society class and Voice and Speech, costume design and probably continue voice.

She is getting the balance of academics and theater that she wanted so so far so good. Auditions for fall mainstage productions are this week so she’ll know in a week or so if she will have that opportunity.

Correction to my earlier schedule: I dropped Later Shakespeare (an English elective) because I was accepted into the BFA Voice and Movement class :D
