Sorry hearing about your son's disappointment and the poor administration and communication of his application. DU's been nortoriously slipshod about this process for a long time, and unfortunately, it costs them. I had 3 students who'd pre-paid their tuition to DU, one of whom was a NMSF and ended up at not one but two Ivy League institutions who was most interested in going to DU. Virtually every school on the planet was calling, writing, etc. Not DU. The others went to highly selective LACs. The parents were somewhat shocked and very disappointed.

All this only goes to say, not that DU is not a fair, decent place. It has its positive points, several of which you've noted. But it seems to be pretty primitive in its mode of communication with prospective students. Mine experienced the same. Not sure what it is, perhaps left over from its poor priestly era, much of which is simply history and legacy, some of which is less than desirable, especially when students are accustomed to very slick, smooth marketing communications.
