Thanks! Yeah, they did go in with my transcript.

Hey I’ll be a rising junior applying this summer, does anybody know if a Rec from a counselor is required?
The site says one must be from a high school rep. Is a teacher not a high school rep? plleaase let me know

I am applying for the tisch non audition MT program as well for 2010 and i was wondering if any of those accepted could give any insight into what their application was like. For example, what your essays were like as well as grades and resume. I am just trying to figure out if i actually have a shot or getting in or not. Thank you very very much :)

My D attended the program last summer and LOVED it. She stays in contact with her fellow classmates and made life long friends (which she is running into at auditions now for college)
She had a high school dance teacher and a English/theater teacher sumit her recommendations…it did not have to be counselor last year. She spent a good deal of time on her paper. She was not a super-student…about 3.7 something GPA. Her PSAT’s were fairly strong but not over the roof. She has a fairly solid resume with many lead roles in various theaters, lots of training in all three areas: vocal, dance and acting. There were a WIDE variety of students accepted, most were VERY talented, but not all had long resumes or equal training in all areas. They were ALL very good students, intellectual, inquisitive, creative people–deep thinkers. I think it would be wise to really work on your essay and perhaps have it proofread by a teacher. Best of luck, it was an amazing experience for my D and even if she doesn’t attend NYU for college, she gained so much including the knowledge and certainty that this is what she wants to pursue for her career. Break a leg!

Thanks. and if you dont mind me asking, do you know if your daughter wrote in her essay (where it says write about a colaborative experience you were in), did she write something regarding dance?

Im applying to the film program and have a great story about a collaborative project althought it has no regards to film (although I do mention how passionate I am about film)

Please let me know thanks!

The collaborative experience she wrote about was musical theater…but honestly I wouldn’t worry if it was about film or not. Write about what you learned as part of that collaboration. NYU is very big on building ensemble and collaboration, if you write about what was meaningful about any collaborative experience I am sure it will be well received. Best of luck.

Thank you so much

Just finished the application! Now the wait till april! Lets post acceptances once the start coming in. Good luck to everyone!

Wait, wasn"t the deadline the 12? And I am so anxious to hear from them :)

The deadline was extended until Tuesday due to technical difficulties with the online submissions.

yes, what soozievt say. Can’t wait for responses!

They accidently sent me an email that said they didnt get all of my materials and I freaked out! did this happen to anyone else and then they called to tell me it had been a mistake.

Also, does anyone know about the whole waitlist thing?

I dont know anything about waitlist but id love if someone could enlighten us with how that works.

Here is how wait lists work in general…

Say a program has 25 slots. And say the program puts out 30 acceptance offers hoping that 25 will enroll. Not everyone will enroll who is accepted as many will have more than one acceptance and have to choose among them. And let’s say that only 20 enroll that got the offer. The program has rejected everyone else except keeps a small wait list. Let’s say the wait list has 15 people on it (I’m making these numbers up an these are not Tisch’s numbers). Now the program needs to fill five more slots that were not filled because they didn’t get 25 students to enroll out of the 30 acceptances that they sent out. So, now the program will offer five people on the wait list, an acceptance. If only three on the wait list take that offer, they’ll go to the next two and so on, until they fill the remaining slots in the program. When you are put on a wait list, it is a positive thing as it means that they WILL accept you IF there is room after they see how many took their initial offers of acceptance. It means you qualify to be in the program if room becomes available. I hope this example helps to explain it for you.
