i also applied for fall. hopefully i get something. should know within the next few weeks i think- based on what i've heard on the facebook group. if you don't hear back in the next month it means you probably didnt get it. one would think that fall/spring is easier to get into compared to summer because it would mean having to take a semester off and possibly getting no credits + other things like delay in graduation. with all that said, it's still probably really competitive. I just wished they interview us by phone or something to get a better understanding of why we would be a good intern. This is sort of like getting into college!

btw IMO the US govt it so cheap. Most of the internships are unpaid and they don't provide housing in many places. It makes places like London impossible to intern in even if you were accepted! Definitely not for people who cant afford it. I'm glad i have the resources and willingness to do this...if i were to be accepted.

i havent heard back…but what i’ve seen from facebook and here all the people that have been accepted are for European embassy’s. i havent seen posts about embassy’s in Asia yet.

yea i know what you mean yowhatsup. but according to their application timeline they only notify accepted people from march-april, then the rest not accepted starting in may… which is only a few days away…

where in asia/what bureau did you apply to?

When I called State Department last week, a Student Programs representative informed me that the bureaus were “nowhere near” completing their selections, and that people will continue to be contacted throughout May. She also said that the non-selects will be notified about a week after the last selections…

selected Hong Kong and Malaysia as my top 2 choices. but realistically if i got to do this i would go anywhere.
Does your status on USAJOBS.GOV say “status not available” or something like that? because mine has been like that since the application period closed with no updates.

Itinerant_Envoy: where did you get the phone number for the State Department? & thanks for the update.

on my usajobs.gov account for this specific application, it has 2 different statuses:

one says “application status not available”.

the other one says “resume received” with the link right below it that says “more information” where it can take you to the page to look at a detailed status of your submitted application or view/generate fax cover sheets. If I choose the fax cover sheet option it shows that my transcript and SAR were received and the details of when they were received.

the DOS student programs office number can also be found on the usajobs website
here, let me just give it to you: 202-261-8888
or you can email them at: hrstudentprogramsvacancy@state.gov
they respond right away too

i don’t have anything for the second status which concerns me now. can’t view my application. i’m hoping that i didn’t spend all this time waiting and missed a step to cause my application to be invalid or never received. that would really suck. i just emailed them to see if i can find out some information about it.

i don’t really know why i have 2 statuses, but at least i know i got in all the required documents on time.

did you at least get a confirmation e-mail that your transcript and SAR (if you’re choosing to get paid) were received? you should have gotten a separate e-mail for each of those. if you did, then you should be fine. you’ll have those as proof.

but, i don’t know why for you there isn’t a way you can view your submitted application… I was able to e-mail mine back to myself to have as a personal copy.

hopefully the student programs office will be able to help you.

It looks like I found this thread a little late…

I was selected to participate in the Internship Fellows Program in November of last year. The security clearance process took FOREVER (I have lots of foreign relatives), but I finally got my interim clearance granted today. I will be interning at the Bureau of Legislative Affairs.

I will get paid a little more than $6200 for the 10 week internship. My stated hourly pay rate is $15.61 (GS-6 level).

Would you say the process of being accepted to the summer clerical program is competitive if I applied GS 1 or GS 2? by the way I applied for this upcoming summer

I applied this year, too. As far as the dates go, I can’t start until the last week of June and can only work until the second week of August (so 6 or 7 weeks?). Do you think these dates would be okay or should I start looking for other activities to do this summer?

Look on the couple of pages of this thread (I started this last year at around this time). There’s a lot of info from someone who had done it a few years ago.

I honestly don’t have a clue how they begin to select applicants. I’m sure all of the potential candidates have stellar grades, and I can only think that it comes down to your experiences. In which case, I might have no chance at all whatsoever. Just a basic computer class done at school (I applied for G1).
Best of luck.

Did anyone get this? I found out last wednesday that I was selected…sent in my background investigation paperwork the other day, now I need to get fingerprinted and find housing…

I applied last year and got an email that I wasn’t selected.
I applied again this year, but haven’t heard back yet. I’m not sure what this means.
