anyone apply to pomona?!

I just got an email with a financial offer.. but i havent gotten a decision. i am hoping this is a good sign, but has anyone gotten anything from them?

i applied... no emails... i think that a financial offer is a goood sign.
where are you coming from, out of curiosity?

im coming from UCLA

they said they would be mailing soon

mailed yesterday

Did anyone here apply to Claremont McKenna too? I have yet to receive an email from them regarding their decision and am getting very anxious.

sure they're doing email? i got my (pomona) decision via mail.

Yea, I talked to them about a week ago and they said that they would be sending out emails. I actually applied last year as well and received the decision via email and then a hard copy of the decision in the mail a couple days later.

got my acceptance in the mail today. i still can't believe it.

they took 10 out of 182.

jimmy i know what you mean. are you going?

i dont know. Gah. so many hard choices. I am still waiting on brown and williams, which were my top choices aside from dmouth and amherst. However, I dont know if i should leave ucla anymore because things have gotten so good and I feel so well adjusted. I am extremely happy and excited and lucky to be part of such a select group that I dont want to waste this opportunity. i dont know. i think im gonna wait for more decisions, let it sink, and visit.

Wow. Congrats! that's amazing

Jimmy, it would be dumb to go from ucla to pomona; ucla has more national recognition and going to either pomona or williams will hurt you in your first job selection. Popularity always wins.

That isn't true at all. Pomona is more prestigious than UCLA, although for different things, and yes, it is less widely known, but it is still known as one of the top top schools in the country. Besides, that shouldn't be a real deciding factor, because in the end, it's not going to affect your chances of getting a job. You have a tough decision ahead of you, but it's a nice decision to have to make, so relish it, and whatever you pick, I'm sure it will be the right choice.

Do you have more information on Pomona? I've never heard of them. I keep thinking Cal Poly, but I'm not sure.

dory, pomona college is a pretty reputable liberal arts college while cal poly pomona is part of the CSU system here in california.

mojo, i agree that pomona is less known, but like epononymous, i think that the people who need to know how good it is, will know. i also have penn under my belt now.. so the choice is even harder. i want to go into consulting, so penn would be best because all 5 bulge bracket firms recruit there, but at the same time, i want a small LAC intellectual experience, so i dont know. blah.

jimmy when was the letter postmarked?

may 14, but i am also in CA

jimmy, they say that the people who need to know will know...but have u ever thought about employers with a boss who has not had a high level of education or doesnt even know about the LAC system (which in most cases are 80% of america), yet somehow got to be a manager, entrepreneur, or even CEO. In this world, employers always go for the popular schools, or schools they have heard of; it makes it easier to identify with the level of an applicant's intelligence, even though i could already see people arguing that what i am saying is not true, but it is.

When you go searching for your first job, you will see how people always ask "so, what school did you attend/graduate from?" then, you'll know what im talking about.

Later on in life though, the school you attend wont matter, but the experience in the field.

If you had to choose between LA and Pomona, I would suggest to stick it out at la.

i totally disagree with mojojo. read the times article today. we no longer live in a world where a very slim number of colleges indicate a prestigious education.

however, if you feel like you FIT at UCLA and you are happy there, then why shake things up?

but i completely disagree about the prestige part. grad school is your most important degree, and grad schools know Pomona
