Anyone applying to Olin?

bluemarker and JefferyJung- I am sure you will receive your username and password soon. I heard they received many applications towards the end of the deadline so they probably need time to log everything in. My son applied toward the end of October and received his username and password within 2 weeks.

Submitted on 12/4/12. Have not yet received the UN/PW e-mail, but did get an e-mail this week saying the application is complete.

Olin is in the Boston suburbs, far from most hotels Olin is not in a location where you could hail a cab.

If you are counting on taxi transportation, check with Olin and/or the hotel (or more knowledgeable parents here) for taxi company phone numbers.

Does anyone know when CW invitations will come out? It looks like in 2010 people got them 1/29 and 1/30. Also, how many of the candidates advance to admission? Is it most?

The Olin website says “early February” for CW invites. I imagine the exact date varies from year to year, but I read somewhere that they did get a lot of apps this year. [Olin College : Admission : Admission Timeline](http://www.olin.edu/admission/application_timetable.aspx)

My recollection is that only about half of the CW students make the final cut.

Based on e-mail they sent out:

They had exactly 800 applications this year.
They plan on inviting around 240 to Candidate Weekends.
They will accept around 135 to fill 74 slots (10 additional slots are reserved for deferrals from 2012/2016).

Candidate Weekends begin Feb 15-16, so I would anticipate that the invitations will be late January rather than early February, to give people time to make travel reservations.

Is there any data on how many invited candidates actually attend CW? Im wondering if there is some decrease in the number considered for admission because of not attending CW. There must be some kids who decide not to attend CW despite the invitation.

And thank you mathinokc!

I don’t have any data on the number of CW attendees vs CW invitees. Sorry!

Because CW happens in February/March before many students have responses from other colleges, I bet the attendance rate is pretty high.

(If a student were going to skip CW because of an EA acceptance, then odds are he/she wouldn’t have finished the Olin app since it wasn’t due until 1/2/2013.)

Altho I don’t know the facts, I strongly doubt many students turn down a CW invitation. Certainly not enough to have an impact on the admissions stats.

Good luck to all on being invited. You should find out by next week.

DS did consider declining CW. Olin is small/limited school, and it was fairly low on the list . Looking back, he might not have applied if it had not captured our interest during the days of full tuition scholarships. DS went because he and DH were able to combine MIT Friday, Olin CW and Northestern accepted students day on Sunday. After CW, they both were smitten with Olin.

Those are some interesting statistics. I would think CW decisions come out around the 31st.

I spoke with admissions today and cw packets have been mailed. They also told me that the kids will be able to check online on Fri 2/1/13 to see if they will be going to CW.

@PA-C, do you mean check the portal, or will they also send out an email?

Good luck everyone.

IF you havent received a packet by friday then check the portal- at least that’s my understanding of what she told me! :)

Thanks FLMathmom- good luck to you too!

Just curious…and impatient… : )

Looks like they went out UPS!

IT just arrived! But, it will have to wait to be opened until DS gets home from building the robot. Sigh. He really would love to be invited to CW.

Yes, it did arrive UPS.

We also have a UPS delivery waiting at home for us too- just called my younger D to check! Are rejections also sent UPS or does this mean he is invited to CW?

OMG … The suspense is killing me. I’m hoping to get home and have a UPS notice in the door for D! sigh
