Mayanoa, Let us know when you hear from DU. Good luck!!

Moms…thanks so much for the input - we hope to hear any day. I do agree that in the end it is my daughter’s decision - again thanks

boysx3… has your son gone to the Hillel on campus? Do you know if it is an active Hillel? My daughter is anxiously awaiting her decision. If she gets in, it will be between DU and American.

Admissions mailed decisions today. Check your mail tomorrow

Good luck to everyone. Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks hope to hear today Good Luck as well

3daughters,

How funny! My middle son is a junior at University of Denver and my youngest son is a first year at American University!

Both are very very happy with their choices.

As far as Hillel at DU goes, the Hillel House is brand new and very nice. I understand that there is a group of students who are active there. Unfortunately they weren’t my son’s people…but he got involved in a lot of other things and is a regular at Shabbat dinner at the Chabad on campus (he really likes the rabbi a lot, and the rebbetzin as well). He has also taken some very interesting Jewish studies classes on campus, which is another way to connect with other Jewish students if that is important to your D.

Please feel free if you want to PM me.

My daughter is a freshman at DU this year. We live in Southern CA, a small beach community. She wanted to experience weather and a change from California. She was accepted at Univ of Michigan and DU. She had a terrible Hyde interview, glad that didn’t make a difference for her acceptance. She is happy with the size of DU, easy access to the professors, light rail for transportation, and the combination of City and mountains. She doesn’t party, and says there are lots of kids that don’t and no pressure to. There are a lot of local kids there and many go home for the weekend. Hockey is huge, and a lot of school spirit. The biggest disappointment is the food. Each dorm room comes with a small frig. and microwave, so this is helpful. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions!

Hi…We are from Burbank and my daughter was accepted to DU and we are going to visit for the second time. She liked DU but did not fall in love. I am glad to hear a lot of school spirit as that is important to her. Does she feel enough out of area students for her to have a good time on weekends? Socially is she happy at DU? My daughter is very outgoing and wants an outgoing active college.

My daughter has complained often about all the local kids going home on the weekends, and has been surprised at the high % of local kids attending the University. You do need to be an outgoing person to get involved with things there. I would say the 2 complaints I hear the most is: How awful the food is, and how many kids leave on the weekend. A few good things - She saw Bob Dylan and Jayz in concert at the University. They bring in a lot of things to see on Campus. The favorite is the Ice Hockey team!

We live near Denver and Univ of Denver is a great option for successful students who may want a smaller option than CU or CSU. It’s a good school. With academic and need awards, the cost of DU is the same right now as both CU or CSU, if my student were to live on campus.

Mayanoa: We were “chatting” with each a few weeks ago (My son is looking at DU - we are from San Diego). I’m glad to hear your daughter is still considering DU. We are flying out there next weekend so my husband and I can see the campus and my son can take another look. He is going to do an overnight visit for the Pioneer Day event. Are you planning on going?

Just FYI, they are 100 people over the number they wanted for Pioneer Day!! Apparently, Univ of Colorado and Colo State have their Admitted Student Days the same weekend and lots of people want to combine the schools in their out of town trips. My student is considering DU and we couldn’t get in to next week’s Pioneer Day, so we’ll just do another local, personal visit. Good luck.

Very glad to see so much interest in DU. We visited 3 times before deciding it was the right fit. It is a beautiful campus, my daughter has a fox den out her dorm window and is enjoying watching all the pups playing about. The thing that sold her the most was the smaller class sizes, the easy access to the professors, and the teaching styles, not just all about tests only.
