Did anyone apply to the University of Denver? What was the result of your application? Why did you decide to attend Denver over your other choices, or why did you choose another school?

My son has chosen the University of Denver. Other schools that he looked at were: Digi Pen Institute of Technology
DePauw, Rensselaer Poytechnic, Penn State, University of Colorado Colorado Springs.

We were impressed by the staff, the students, their enthusiasm regarding the curriculum. We liked the campus, beautiful. I like their relations with schools from other countries and their diversity. We liked the research projects that they were involved in.

Plus, the school is only about an hour from home:)

My son really liked Denver on his recent visit but worries that he will not fit in if he does not drink. The night he was there (he stayed over on a Sunday night) most people were studying or hanging out and he felt quite comfortable, but there was a lot of discussion of partying and he couldn't get a feel for there being fun alternatives for those who didn't drink a lot. Did you get any feeling for this?

My son did not spend the night. He does not drink or party either..in fact, he is not very sociable. We did not get the impression that partying was a priority at Denver, but of course there will always be students that will choose to do so. I believe that I read that there was a dorm that the students make a vow not to smoke, drink or even stay up late at but I am not certain off hand which dorm that was.

Oh, by the way, did he check out the gym there? It is very impressive and includes tons of activities for the students that my son was interested in such as tae kwon do, and kendo. He also is interested in joining an anime club. There are video game playing clubs as well. There is plenty do at the school other than partying. This is not Boulder..snicker.
