Anyone at the February 17th Audit?

Hey, I was just wondering if any CCers were at the OU audition on february 17th?

and we found it very interesting. The tour of the campus was informative; great spaces for performing. The freshmen of MT had their own bulletin board of introduction, and several students spoke extensively with parents in an info session. My S has put it higher on his list since our visit. They only invited around 90 students for oncampus auditions...I believe. The only negative we found was that they only produce one musical a semester.

I'm not familiar with OU but when you observe how many musicals per semester, you have to examine how many students are in the program. If it is a small program, that may be relative, therefore. Also, find out if there are student run productions as well. Many programs have these. Lastly, find out if there are plays they can be in, and other performing opportunities....cabarets, and the like. But how many of these performance opportunities is only relevant when relative to the size of the program. Perhaps you were only referring to Mainstage productions. Look and see what other production/performance work goes on. Just a thought.

soozievt - you are right in that they do offer a wide variety of other performing opportuntities and produce only two "main stage" musical shows a year. Is that typical? There seem to be many, many opportuntites to act in straight plays and student run productions.

Vikkie....how many students are in this program? The amount of shows you are describing may be typical, yes, depending on the size of the program. Some schools put on more. But having one mainstage musical per semester, plays, and student run productions, is the whole picture. Compare what you know of other programs this way but also make sure you look at the number of students and also NOT just at the number of Mainstage productions. For instance, I think PSU has one mainstage musical per semester and there are maybe sixty kids in that program (oy, I hope this is accurate but if it is not, someone correct me).

There is a cap on OU's MT program of 50 students. That's a total of 50 for all four years, but they average about 11-12 students per year, so the actual total figure might be less than 50.

We were told that they currently have 42 students, I believe. They are taking 16 this year. But, they lose some over the years, so they end up maintaining their cap of 50 or so.
