Hi!!! Does anyone here attend Pace? I heard it was an easy school to get into which sounds great, but it’s very expensive!!! How did anyone afford it? How do I get financial aid? (Btw, do you think i’ll get in with a 1070 sat and a 20 act?) Thanks!!!
My sons classmate is attending as a freshman this year. We’re in Chicago. I can assure you that she could not financially afford this school however she’s there and I’m sure she’s received some sort of aid to even think about attending. She’s extremely happy. I don’t think there were enough student qualifying loans for her so she may have received need-aid, fafsa and maybe a scholarship to try to make it work. I’m curious and will ask over the holidays. Since we are all anonymous here, I thought some would come out and just be honest but it’s not so much on these boards :(… Some maybe use their cushion saved, some grants, some are left $$$ in estate wills but personal finances are rarely spoken on these boards hope this helps
Your standardized tests are well below the average. Is your GPA above their standard? http://www.pace.edu/admissions-aid/undergraduate-admission/freshman/pace-student-body-profile
Hi @Liamma9 ! just found out one of my S. Friends got in with a 900 Sat. He just didn’t want to bother taking it as she only want test optional schools and took a chance on this one. He had a 2.9 gpa (many honors and ap courses) and was accepted with a scholarship (I’m assuming possibly a conservatory scholarship) and received his package today
@Liamma9 I meant he… sorry for the typo
Hi @actingdreams, i’m not sure if I will still apply due to little problems, but I hopefully will by the deadline. Thank you for letting me know! Congrats to your friend!
hi @Liamma9 my S was accepted. Certainly not his top school but more of a safety however for the price, it will be a no. Even with scholarships, the avg due after is roughly 36K…He has an audition in Feb with them but I highly doubt he will get much more aid. If Pace was say Juilliard, we would try to make it work but it’s not on the top of his list. I didn’t have any of the above resources
Hi @actingdreams, I agree on how it’s very very expensive even after aid as I’ve heard, however, I too am still applying as a safety option. Hopefully your friend gets more aid! Pace uni is too expensive!
you will get in! a student at my son’s school just got in with low sat and GPA (2.4 and his classmates are supportive and open with grades and gpa etc). It looks like you will be accepted as a challenge to success. It’s $500 added to your tuition. With this comes counselor, career counselor and a ton of tutors if needed and it’s like you’re meeting with them (sort of a mentorship) once per week. They accept you but you will have to take on this mentorship for 1 year ( I think it’s good even for really smart kids) … Hope this helps and good luck to you
@actingdreams Thank you so much for your advice and help! I will be sure to let you know how it all goes!
anytime @Liamma9 Many schools are going test optional. Cuny, Suny etc… Check into this. Also, lower SAT doesn’t automatically get you rejected. They may consider other extracurricular and look at other grades that you may have
My son also got into PACE. We applied for financial aid. I heard it’s a very nice school but he’s giving me a hard time. Are u familiar with Hofstra, Adelphi, St. John’s? He likes them but so expensive.
Congrats! And please let me know if they are considerate in regards to financial aid. I’m going to apply soon but im a little skeptical of the financial aid.And yes, I’m quite familiar with St.Johns, and I do believe it is cheaper than Pace University.
@corijk lol sorry I forgot to tag you
Hopefully, I do think many kids such as I do better in school than the tests, so I think it would be the best thing ever if many schools went test optional, @actingdreams
hi @corijk and @Liamma9 we received what would appear like an amazing scholarship but once you are accepted, you’re able to log onto an accepted site with forums for new students. They have sent everyone their financial aid package and there are MANY on there right now saying how excited they were to get the $$ but there was a on avg $35,0000 gap needed meaning they needed to find this through parent loans or outside sources. I am assuming this is for most of the students here. We are auditioning but Pace was on the bottom of our long list. I don’t know anything about talent scholarships for this school. I just don’t know if their bfa acting program is strong enough for us to consider paying a $70k per year
If you are in NY, you should consider SUNY schools. At least, have some on your list. With Excelsior, they can be a financial safety for almost anyone. You don’t say what your GPA is, or what you would like to study, but usually schools that are test optional are looking for higher GPA’s. I did some quick checking and saw the Potsdam, Delhi and Empire State are test optional; there might be others, but I don’t know about it. Potsdam is a music school, but it is in a horrible location. Delhi is great for culinary and some other majors. Empire State is essentially a do it yourself type of program geared to older and returning students. I am hoping that my oldest son, who dropped out of college, will go to Empire State for a degree once he becomes permanent with USPS.
Look at suny.edu which will give you the ranges of scores and GPAs of students who apply and/or attend. If you are a minority, lower socio economic person or a first generation student, you may be able to apply for an EOP program, which accepts students with lower scores and grades.
My son got into Adelphi and Post; he didn’t apply to Pace (although he did like it when he visited, which surprised me because he usually hates the city), Hofstra or St. John’s, even though all of them had admission days at the HS. The scholarship he was offered at Post (with a 3.4 and 27 ACT composite) was more than what SUNY is costing me for the year and I would still have had close to $30K to pay. Adelphi offered him less than Post by about $7K a year. Schools like Post, Adelphi, Hofstra, Pace and St. John’s are not worth it unless you have a great scholarship (didn’t happen for my son with his stats). Believe me, I live or work near all of them and I wouldn’t send my kid to any of them. He applied to Adelphi and Post to practice his skills for the required interview for his major at the SUNY he is currently at.
