Anyone Auditioning Soon?

Good to hear, pmcolorado, thank you. I hope hers is as quick! (and positive!)

We just completed our final audition! which was at UARTS on Saturday. I am so relieved to be done with the process. There were about 30 or so dancers auditioning on Saturday. The class was about 90 minutes long and from my daughter’s perspective, was not extremely difficult. She said there was a wide range of talent there. The dancers were able to watch all of the solos and my daughter commented that that everyone was super friendly. And now comes the waiting…Thus far we have received a full acceptance from Shenandoah. We have received an artistic acceptance from University at Buffalo (we are not applying academically as my daughter is certain she does not want to attend). We received academic acceptance from Point Park on 12/4 so we expect to hear about the audition in the very near future. UARTS said notices will be out before 12/20 if all supporting documents are in. Good luck everyone!!

@Fordham19 and @caymangirl38 - Yay! Received email invite tonight for Fordham audition in DC on Jan 4. Phew! She was starting to lose confidence. Thank goodness for frequent flyer points and relatives we can stay with. The plane tickets would have cost a fortune otherwise. Good luck to both of your dancers!

Jan/Feb will be audition central for us. Fordham, Butler, Pace, NYU, SUNY Purchase, plus a couple of summer intensive auditions. Holy Moly, here we go!

Best of luck @PMcolorado!!

We did not get good news from Fordham. I’m worried we are at a disadvantage because we live in a very small town and she attends 2 of the best schools in the area. But compared to schools in bigger cities, we are probably at a disadvantage. Our school is not a competition school. My D does ballet, tap, jazz, modern, contemporary. The school puts the Nutcracker on every year and a spring recital. That’s it for performance opportunities. Last year the school was invited to dance in a show with other schools, but we have nothing else. She did 2 summer intensives, has 2 medals from the American Academy of Ballet judged by Mignon Furman herself (founding director), held at our school. I wonder if they are looking for people that have won national titles, etc. I just feel like its not fair to not get an audition when they haven’t seen the student dance. We are applying to Columbia College Chicago, Mulhenberg, and Sarah Lawrence as back up plans for non-audition schools. DD had the Point Park audition on Sunday and felt good about it. She said there were around 36 people auditioning. At least she didn’t come out crying saying she did terrible. She really enjoyed it and was happy the judges were also the teachers. We still have auditions in Jan, Feb. and March, so we’ll see what happens. I keep thinking, “Everything happens for a reason.”

Sorry about that caymangirl38. FWIW, I don’t think it had anything to do with not having won a national title. My D is a member of a very strong competition team, but she did not put anything competition related on her resume. Everything I’ve read says colleges don’t care about that.

DD just completed ailey / fordham audition. 23 girls no boys. She felt it went really well. Audition incl. ballet, modern, tour, solo and interview. Ballet was challenging, Not overwhelming. DD thought 5 of the 23 we’re solid.

I’m sure things will work out cayman38.

I totally agree, this pre-screening thing just sucks, and its just not fair that they don’t see them dance before they make a decision. They should at least look at a video! That’s what Pace does.

My DD left a big successful competition studio in our area to go independent at the beginning of her Junior year. We actually felt that the competition thing would be more of a distraction than a help with the college process. Yea, the performance opportunities are plentiful, but her former studio that did quite well at national comps as a studio, rehearsed rehearsed rehearsed to the point where they would cancel technique classes the week of a competition. And they went to 7-8 competitions a year. That’s a lot of class to miss.

DD auditioned at Dominican/LINES last month, by way of taking their freshman ballet class. The program director told her she could tell she had been a competition kid, and it wasnt said as a positive.

Anyway, best wishes to everyone and hopefully they will all end up where they are supposed to be.

So Sorry @pmcolorado! Still wishing your daughter the best of luck. Have you checked out Shenandoah? My daughter auditioned there and really liked it. What about UARTS?

Sorry…I meant to respond to cayman38 :(

@BerriCre8v: How did the Pace audition go?

Pace audition was very interesting. That program is VERY competitive. She doesn’t think she’s going to get in.

anyone attend an audition for the ailey fordham program in chicago or texas?

Update: We just received our artistic acceptance to Point Park, with an artistic award  We were hoping for a bit more of a scholarship, but are hoping that once FAFSA’s are processed there will be potential for more! So relieved my DD got into her first choice and that we are done with the audition process. Best of luck to everyone on their journeys!!

Congratulations dancemomdee on your D’s acceptance to Point Park. I’m sure your so relieved it’s all over. When did she audition for them? My D did the audition on Dec. 8th. They said everyone would hear by the end of the month. Did you receive a letter in the mail or email? Just trying to brace myself for whatever may happen.

Thank you @Caymangirl38! We are very relieved! My D auditioned on 11/16 on campus. At the time of the audition, my daughter had not sent in all required application materials and was not academically accepted until 12/4. The artistic decision was sent on 12/12, according to the post mark. I have no idea what the turn around would have been had she already had her academic acceptance. Also, I checked Pointweb religiously for several days and nothing changes that clues you in to the acceptance or denial. You will have to wait for the mailman  Good luck to your daughter. Although Point Park is my daughter’s top choice, we are awaiting a decision from UARTS and waiting to see what sort of money she is offered from Shenandoah, which she also liked.

Thanks dancemomdee. I too check Pointweb continuously. The only thing that changed on there today was saying a postcard went out talking about missing deposits or something. Yesterday we had a letter from them and I panicked. But it was a Xmas card. I kind of figured by the shape of envelope, but still got nervous. We’ll be waiting on the mailman.

Congrats dancemomdee! That’s wonderful news for your D.
My DD has 4 academic acceptances and just got her first dance program acceptance tonight to LMU. Not sure what the final decision will be until all is said and done, but it’s good to have that vote of confidence from a good school.

Congratulations everyone!

Congrats on acceptances. My daughter doesn’t have her auditions until January and February, although she has acceptances from some non-audition programs. Her dance company had so many required weekend rehearsals every weekend the past few months that the only school that a couple of the senior girls have auditioned at is Univ of Az. At least all of her applications and prescreen videos are now in as of today. It seems everyone is targeting the same schools: Point Park, Univ of Arts, Pace, LMU,…
