<p>I get that a lot, actually, from those who know anything about the two schools. Minus the apprehension I still have about Swarthmore's workload (I can't shake it, sorry), I like the two schools about the same. I think the best way I can justify this is to point out that I'm from rural Maryland, where the south meets the north. At the same time, I find the southern gentleman lifestyle charming and the Swarthmore's Yankee tradition of fair play respectable.</p>
<p>More tangibly, both schools are the perfect size for me, and both are almost entirely concentrated on the undergrad experience (W&L only has 300-some law students). Both schools have wonderful locations, even if they are a bit different. Both schools stress the importance of student-professor relations.</p>
<p>By now you've probably figured out that, so far, all of my reasons are really vague and can be found at more than just these two schools. I suppose that both schools just possess personalities and characteristics that clicked with mine.</p>

<p>Yes, Bobby. I was just worried that it reflects poorly upon me for not having a real reason as to how I can love both Swarthmore and W&L. It does seem silly, though, doesn't it?</p>
<p>No, I don't think it is silly. If you knew how we (our family) selected colleges, then you would think you are way ahead in this process. It turns out that my son loves the smallness and the quality of undergrad education at an LAC. We should have looked at other LACs then. But we did not know that much about LACs (I know, I know there is USNWR) and selected only well-known research unis. We did visit all of the ones he applied except Swarthmore. </p>
<p>Some of the choices make no sense to me anymore. The only reason we applied to Swarthmore was all the literature we got in the mail and the fact that my son knew someone 2 years older who goes there. Anyway, it worked out in the end and he is happy with his choice.</p>

<p>I think the people I've talked to who attend Swarthmore currently are some of the most impressive people I've ever met. I'm a sucker for (what seems to be) a beautiful campus. I love everything about the small LAC experience. The Quaker tradition has done many things to make the school a positive place to live for four years. Students have the stats to get into HYP in most cases, so they must really want to be at Swarthmore if they attend. And there are specific clubs, etc., but you know.</p>
