Anyone concerned about the weather at target colleges?

Many wildfires are started by arsonists or in the case of the Paradise fire in NorCal, a blown PG&E transformer. While wind is obviously weather-related, criminal and/or negligent acts are not.

Few places can beat SoCal in weather. Colleges like Pomona, Claremont McKenna like to advertise that kids can ski in the mountain and swim at the beach on the same day. Where else can you find four seasons outdoor within 30 miles?

What starts the fires in SoCal is irrelevant. The fact remains that they have massive, devastating fires frequently. Weather related issues seem like such a hot button for you, @Sushiritto.

yes @jzducol - I mentioned the ski/beach opportunity in posts 217 and 220 of this thread. But there are lots of schools with climates/weather people enjoy. SoCal is fine, but so are other locales.

The original questions was “Are you concerned about the weather at target colleges”. For us, that is a definite, “no”. We have a list of priorities and weather is not one of them. We have lots of family in Hawaii. If weather was top concern I’d send my kids there before CA.

@jym626 It’s relevant to moi, because the wind blowing wouldn’t matter much at all (except for wind turbines), if someone or some company would cease their intentional negligent or criminal acts.

Yes, I’m a local meteorologist and play one on TV.

My kid went to CA for college. One of her criteria was “pleasing weather” which for her meant…no snow. She loved being there for the four years. Never once went to the mountains to ski or see snow. Went to the beach maybe a half dozen times when she was there during the summer (she could have gone to the beach here).

So…SHE considered weather…and it was fine with us. But we didn’t consider it in a way that meant we parents would have eliminated college choices based on weather. But our kid did!

However, her ultimate safety was a New England school where there is plenty of winter…and no real beach. If push had come to shove, she would have been fine there.

Our S did not bring geography into the mix when he applied to schools. That said, he ended up attending a school in California and now says he really wants the stay there!

A really good friend of ours kid went to University of Vermont for the snow and snowboarding. Just graduated and she loved her time being there. Don’t really see weather as an issue. But I would still pick the school over the weather. The weather isn’t giving my kids a chance to make a living, the school is.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: Please move on. I deleted several posts.

Its time for you to let it go and move on, @sushiritto. Otherwise its likely to be seen as bickering. I’ve had quite enough.

So when reading this thread this keeps going around in my head Like The Weather https://g.co/kgs/JLHtG4 :snowflake:?

You can find sand in a lot of places. I remember going into the water in LA in August and not being able to feel my toes after about 30 seconds. That water is cold, but I’ll have to admit that in the contiguous US So Cal has the mildest weather if that is what you are looking for. Did I mention the state tax rate of 10% for those making more then $52K and it goes up from there. Ouch.

Here we find people literally arguing about the weather. I thought the Parent forum would mainly be comprised of adults.
