Ramen, TV dinners, and bacon doesn't count, guys :P

Yeah I know, most dorms don't have kitchens, etc. I'm talking more to people who live in a house or apartment. I can't stand eating over-priced, crap dorm food and we have an apartment this year but the grocery situation is a bit weird. We have a Meijer, Super Walmart, something called 'Schnucks', and Aldi but none of them seem that great for fruits and vegetables. I was wondering what other people do in regards to cooking and whatnot, like how often you shop for groceries and similar stuff.

I live in an apartment so I have to shop. I usually just order my groceries online and get them the next day, though.
I usually buy groceries once to twice a month, depending on how empty the kitchen is getting.

Well, since im married, yes. I grocery shop every 2 weeks, spend around 150-180 for 3 people. Walmart and Aldis never have great fruit/veggies. I sometimes go to a local farmers market for that, or buy frozen that doesn’t spoil as quickly.

Plattsburgh: Order online? Like a Peapod-type thing? I wish we had that stuff, but our university is a bit in the boonies ;)

Srose: Yeah, I’ve found that to be a bit frustrating. We have a farmer’s market but the prices are outrageous. We have a couple ethnic grocery stores with produce so I’ll try my luck there.

Yep. I use Fresh Direct though – FreshDirect
I’m in NYC and the bodegas here are crazy overpriced and only have about 1/4 the things I’ll need, so then I’ll have to go to four bodegas to get everything.
It’s a mess. I’m also without a car. Plus Fresh Direct’s produce has always been great quality. I’ve never received anything that was poor quality from them.

I spend $50 a week on groceries (my bf eats with me too) and I make most of my food from scratch.

This year theres a great farmers market open until December so I’m going to try and buy in season and from there since its cheaper (and tastes better). Last year I just bought vegetables from the supermarket.

I buy frozen veggies too, since they don’t go bad quickly.

I cook real food. We have an abundance of grocery stores in the area (2 Shoppers within 2 miles of campus, on Giant). I spent abou $100 a month on groceries. I like broiling chicken or pork and steaming vegetables. Sometimes we’ll go fancier–yesterday my girlfriend made lasagna.
