Anyone else apply?

I applied using Common App. on about 11/30.

Anyone know when decisions come out?

Deadline for RD is 1/15 according to website so if you are in the RD pool you probably won’t get any decisions until they are all reviewed.
Maybe there is a logon id/pwd that allows you to check status of application on their website. Other than that, it may be a bit of a wait.

Hi OHKID. I’m assuming you are from Ohio. Do you know much about Clarkson vs Case? My husband and I are Clarkson grads. I think it is a fine school, but it is really tought to get to and just a little too techie oriented for our son. We will visit Case on 1/21.

Sorry about swinging by so late…

Anyways, I assume you’re on your way to your visit now, but Case is VERY techy. The former half of the school, which was a technical institute, prevails (Case as it stands today was formed by the merger of two schools in 1963, much like Carnegie Mellon was).

The rep is great, the city is great, the staff is great, but the students are only okay at best. It’s kind of a computer-geek atmosphere, although I do see attempts from Case to try and branch out. Personally, it is where I would be attending without a doubt if it wasn’t for the atmosphere, as it is PERFECT on paper. It was such a bummer, too, as I was so set on it my sophomore year :(

To be honest, Case does probably have a better atmosphere than Clarkson. I have never visited, but from what I have read it sounds like a very similar atmosphere paired with isolation. At least at Case, you can hop on the Red Line subway, head downtown and hit the Warehouse district for fun if you want. Plus, half of Cleveland’s museum’s are on site, they are all stellar, and Case students get FREE admission to them all. Landing internships is also not that hard as many Fortune 500’s and even a Big Four accounting firm are HQ’d in town.

So hopefully you enjoy your visit. It may just be the perfect fit :)

If you applied through the common app, it might be a while. Decisions start on a rolling basis around Feb. 15th for Clarkson. The exception to this is if you used the Clarkson’s own “Unconventional Application”. My friend who is really set on Clarkson used this and was accepted on 1/23. This app is supposed to give you a fast decision but I couldn’t believe it was that fast. I’m in the same boat as you, applying through Common App. Hopefully mine is near the top of the pile and I’ll get a decision in February. :D

my DD applied and was just accepted last week with a cool music playing folder!!

My son got his acceptance yesterday and the music playing folder. Does anyone know whether they offer merit aid? There was nothing in the letter about it and he wouldn’t be going there if he had to pay full freight. He’s not really interested anyway even though his uncle and cousin went there.

Yes they offer a ton of merit aid. And need-based aid. More than any other school I applied too. I’m currently getting 10K a year in merit based aid (you have to maintain a 3.25gpa to keep it). Maybe your son will change his mind once the FA comes in because from my experience (and the many others that I have talked to that go here) they offer quite a bit more FA than almost any other colleges.

Best of luck!

We enjoyed our visit to Case (more details posted in Case threads). The city vibe does have pros and cons.

I graduated from Clarkson in 1984. I did get a lot of aid, but it was largely due to the fact that my parents were separated. I had no problem being in a small town… Clarkson and Potsdam State pretty much own the place. The big improvement now is that most things are on “The Hill”, eliminating the cold one mile walk to the downtown campus classes.

Yes, it is isolated. But I’ve been on many college tours this year and many students tell me they are too busy with work and fun to leave campus. This includes a tourguide at Case who admits to not having used the free museum passes etc. To me the main drag about isolation is the logistics to travel home. It was not too bad for me getting rides to Poughkeepsie, but the trek to CO for my son would have been unwieldy.

Just got accepted today. I have to say that I’m impressed…

They sent a really neat folder that played the fight song and yelled “Go Clarkston!!!” when I opened it up. Definitely was so cool and made the moment special when I opened it up today. What a GREAT idea!!!

Congrats, OHKID.
Did they include any info re merit scholarships?

^Not yet, just an Honors invite :)

On the interview 2 weeks ago we were told financial aid packages will be out the first week in March.

OHKID, Do you need an seperate interview to get into the honors program?

Are there any other “priority applicants” still waiting for acceptance information or have you all heard back from admissions office???

My D applied by common app and just got her acceptance on Friday. It was our understanding that they went through the priority apps first, then the common apps so that’s why she heard later than some of her classmates. We’re still waiting to hear on financial aid/scholarships, though.
