Yup! We are doing the same thing. My DS even has MY phone number on things so that his phone doesn’t accidentally ring in class/band practice. He’s also not very good with phone etiquette!!!

One thing that we learned going through this last year, is the importance of keeping track of all the different passwords you will have. Almost every school my son applied to had either an on-line application or supplement. Many schools have an applicant website where you can log in and check to see that they have received your test scores, application, application fee, etc. Plus, they will post the admission decision on-line. I recommend a spreadsheet of some sort to keep track of your SAT/ACT/FAFSA/CSS Profile and individual college passwords. Print a hard copy as well and keep it safe in case of computer problems.

At my kids’ high school, they were required to secure teacher recs at the end of junior year. Then, during the first couple of weeks of senior year, the kids re-confirmed those recs. Those are biggies, and writing them is something that is out of kids’ control, so best to get those agreed on during junior year.

Also in the rec department, let teachers know deadlines! If your ED app is due November 1, don’t let that slide under the teacher’s radar. I’ve seen too many sad faces of kids having to chase around a last-minute rec from a teacher who didn’t know them well, because kid failed to mention a due date.

Kids are relying on the hard work of teachers and GCs. Respect their time, and they will respect your requests.
