I got my letter a week or two ago, but I don't really know anything about it. How many students are in it? Is it prestigious etc.
Also, it seemed like there was some sort of connection with the Presidential Scholarship. If you get the Presidential scholarship, are you automatically in the honors program?? Any information would be great.

Yes, My D (she gets a full tuition scholarship). There are only 50 students who are accepted to the honors program each year.

FYI:

Admission

Admission to the Honors Program is selective and is by invitation only. Students are invited to enroll as incoming freshmen. Admission to Honors requires a separate application which is sent to all students who indicate interest in Honors on the College’s application for admission. Students who use the Common Application indicate their interest on Loyola's Common Application Supplement. In reviewing Honors applications, the director is interested in evidence of the student’s superior academic potential (generally an SAT score (Reading/Math) of 1350 or higher) and achievement (generally a high school grade point average of at least 3.7 on a 4.0 scale). Beyond these guidelines, the director looks for evidence of a student’s desire to be challenged intellectually, paying particular attention to the quality of thought reflected in the required essay, and to the student’s record of extracurricular activity.

Thanks for such a quick response! Congratulations about your D's full ride!

My D decided on Loyola yesterday. we are mailing in the honors acceptance today. made our deposit online. congrats too on the full ride. I wish we would have gotten that - her numbers must be outstanding. ( my d 1430 R/M; 3.8 GPA uw )

Her scholarship was titled Presidential but not full. from reading, the Presidential ranges from $7500 (i think) to full.

Across the board, i know this years numbers were quite competitve.

I think getting into the honors program helped her to decide. We had gone to a college day previously and sat in on the Honors program session and she liked what she heard as to how it is run.

MELBYMOM,

My D doesn't want me to post her numbers. In addition to the numbers, her ECs and leadership activities help a lot.

She is still undecided among Loyola, University of Virginia and College of William & Mary. We will attend the April 12 open house and the scholarship appreciation dinner. I think after that she will have a clear idea (we have not been at Loyola before).

Do yo know anything about Loyola's pre-med program ? My D is interested in biology/pre-med.

Congrats on your D's acceptance to the honors program. It's extremely competitive this year everywhere!

bln-1975

I agree on your last comment - just too many kids born that are graduating this year.

A school mate is also considering Loyola too, he plans on biology but don't think he is looking pre-med. he visited and liked what he saw.

my d is going engineering . got into lehigh (her #1), bucknell (hadn't visited yet), and lafayette but with no merit or financial aid. (full tuition at two other schools) Weighing everything out, Loyola's is the best fit and choice.
