Anyone else get annoying messages in Calmail?

I'm not talking about general silly spam where they ask you to buy enhancement drugs, but the occasional targeted emails from some student about their cause or one about the evils of the Berkeley administration or how we must all rise to action.

I'm wondering how they get your cal mail address and then mass message a bunch of students. Lately I've been getting some from an Asian American PAC "80-20" and every time I mark it as spam they always come back with a different e-mail address -- like the know I'm putting them as spam. I'm sure they way they obtained my e-mail was university related.

I don't sign up for newsletters yet somehow... I keep getting these e-mails and it's annoying me like no other.

Meh. It’ll last for a few more months unfortunately. These groups target their emails at freshmen since you’re all young’uns and still easy to sway. They probably want to recruit you for their various causes.

Anyone with the money can send messages to large groups of students.

Eg. IIRC, a single email to all freshmen costs $100.

you might want to check if you have been inadvertently placed on a listserve. if you know where the spam is coming from, you can remove yourself from the listserve.
