"It seems like the ppl who applied to a lot of ivy league schools got into at least one"

I was also thinking as I read this thread that I don't think it's a very good strategy to only apply to one or two places with admissions rates of less than 10%, unless those are really the only ones that interest you. Although there have been lengthy threads about this, showing that you don't necessarily increase your mathematical chances by applying to more, it seems to me that if you are in the stats range for these schools, you increase your chance of fitting what one of the schools is looking for if you apply to more of them.

Razzle ... I know what you mean. With the Ivies and Stanford making tuition basically go away for middle class families, the Northwester/Rice/JH/WashU/Duke/etc.s of the world are all of a sudden not just a notch lower in prestige, but about twice the cost!

For a lot of families, the decision will be "If you get into an Ivy, fantastic, otherwise it's State U. We're not going to go into debt for a well regarded Private University that isn't Top 10. It isn't worth it!"

For a California applicant, the equation has become: Ivy/Stanford: $0 - $18,000. Berkeley: $22,000, Private U $48,000.

Rejected by Columbia, Harvard, Duke, UPenn, Johns Hopkins, and NYU.
Accepted to Drexel, BU, UM, and UF.

But it is okay I am attending UMiami where I will get a great education. I am very excited =D
Find your own path and don’t let these admission decision makers ruin one minute of your sleep. Stay motivated and focused and you will find success even if the journey seems too long and difficult <3

rejected by Princeton, Yale, and Brown
WL at Vassar and Haverford
Accepted to Claremont McKenna, USC(Thematic Option, 1/2 tuition scholarship), UVA, WIlliam and Mary(Monroe scholar), Holy Cross, BC(honors), Lafayette(Marquis scholar), St Mary’s colelge of Maryland, COlgate

and, lastly, a full ride at MD- that’s looking like the winner.

I feel like I got in everywhere that ISN’T a crapshoot(with the ivys, theres a TON of luck involved) so I’m happy. There’s always Ivy law or grad school.

Rejected from all 8 haha. I don’t mind though - NU 2015! To be honest, the only people who got into ivys in my school were the valedictorian (princeton) and salutorian (dartmouth). Surprising, considering that last year there were over a dozen ivy admits. I guess it all relates back to proliferation of the common app and an increased hunger for prestige in our generation.

D rejected from upper ivies, but still has some attractive options with Swarthmore, Chicago and Northwestern. Tough season but plenty of good opportunities ahead. Happy with choices.

Rejected by: Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn Wharton (ED)

If the above is all that happened, it would be perfectly fine since Northwestern and Duke were my top choices anyway. BUT I GOT WAITLISTED BY BOTH OF THEM.

So if you got accepted by Duke or Northwestern and have equivalent or better options, don’t go!
