My son has received financial aid packages from 4 schools. Two schools--one that he is very interested in, have still not sent them. When we called to check, they said end of this week. I think giving a child 2 weeks to make one of the biggest decisions of their life is cutting it quite short.

So that he can feel like he is making some progress in his decisions, I told him to pick a favorite from the 4 that sent packages (minus one that sent a package that was not at all in line with the rest) and we'll go visit again this weekend. Fortunately that worked out well because one of the 4 was a favorite .

My son received his packet from UVA today. He still hasn't heard from one of his schools but he no longer wants to go there so it doesn't matter. Did you try to get the info online? It might be posted at the same time it's mailed.

One of the schools will post it on-line -- it isn't there yet either. I just think this is very late. Both of these schools he was accepted to early and with merits. We filed FAFSA early Jan.

Yes, we are still waiting for one package as well. It makes me mad that the school is so late. It had a Dec. 1 priority deadline, which we met. I know many colleges received a record number of applications, but they all knew that was going to happen! They should have staffed up or hired some temps.

Called in once, heard it was all fine and working on the package; called in again and they needed a form. What if I hadn't called in, one wonders. And all this since April 6, no less.

At this point, I wouldn't just wait but would call in for a check-in. Get ready to stay polite, too.

Yup, waiting on U Chicago. Or I guess, not waiting any more. Son wasn't interested in waiting, and decided on another school that gave a full ride. Surely schools know they cost themselves students when they delay this way.

Yes, my son has gone ahead and fully embraced (including scheduling an extra visit and starting to pick out a dorm) one of the schools that was a top choice and gave him a nice package shortly after acceptance. One of the schools he is waiting for the package from was the other top choice. There will be no time at this point to schedule an extra visit there. Fortunately he has a great school to attend that he is happy about.

I know that I decided not to wait for one of my colleges. I am most impressed with the schools who sent the financial aid pkg. along with the decision. And I ultimately chose one of those schools.

I really don't like the schools who won't give you a final pkg. until after May 1st and those who once you were accepted, then they began asking for additional info. This only holds up the process that I began working on last September!!

The problem is, some funds are not available prior to May...therefore, what might loook like a crummy package from one school could actually be an underfunded estimate which would grealy improve after May 1. I know we have several scholarships and grants that cannot be forecasted until after May 1.

I received my freshman out of state fin aid package really quick last year ~ This year, I am considered a Junior (transferred 47 credits in). Do you know when I can expect to hear about my financial aid package for 2007/2008 year? I contacted the fa office, but was told they they on currently working on in state freshman... This year I qualified for Pell Grant and SMART Grant ~ Do you think that would change my overall package from last year alot? Thanks!

This describes our situation exactly, except that I have a daughter! Good thing we're not waiting for the package to arrive to make a decision. It's still irksome to me, though, to not have heard anything.

And the final one went on-line. They "awarded" us a PLUS loan = 2/3 of tuition. (among of few other things and lots of loans for him). Won't be going there. Thankfully 4 schools gave him good packages. And today's other package was the best by far. Glad it is over. Good luck to everyone else waiting.

We're still waiting for one, and that's the one that D has decided she wants to attend. I'm feeling less panicky about it because I've been in communication with the FA office at the school - apparently our CSI Profile, which I submitted on January 24 (I just double checked that date yesterday, I thought I sent it later) didn't get to them until March 15!!!! Thanks, College Board - grrrrr.

They said we should get it this week. If it's not in the mail today, I'll be calling them tomorrow morning.

Irishmomof2, I don't know if it applies to you, but at University of Michigan they download those profiles, and they can't do that until you've been accepted. Perhaps that's the case across the board and it was delayed waiting for your daughter's decision? Or maybe it was a delay in the aid office getting around to retrieving it? Just a few thoughts from someone who's still waiting for an aid package (and I filed CSProfile in Nov and FAFSA on Jan 1 :-p).
