On my last real ACT test i got a 28 composite.
Since then I have been taking practice tests out of the McGraw Hill book and averaging 32-34 on each section.

Does anyone else think the McGraw Hill book supplies easier tests, or am i fortunate enough to just be getting better?

yes they are easier except the writing portion

yea i did the math in 40 minutes, which was unusaul

also, are those correction factors accurate at all

Nope. A McGraw Hill 34 is an ACT 30. A McGraw Hill 32-33 is an ACT 28. I should not have bought that book.

You seem to be in the same boot as me. I got a 28 recently, but I've gotten a 30 before. I suggest you grab a copy of Barron's. It's harder than the real ACT. Suck the juice out of that book before Saturday (if you have it on Sat.), and clear your mind.

I hope your first name doesn't start w/ an 'n,' since mine does and we have the same last name...

my first name does start with an n lol

Oh ***. So If i got a 52/60 in the Math.. thats a 28 on the Real ACT and 32 on the McGraw Hills.

Dang. Anyone have the actual scoring thing?

Mcgraw just doesn't have those tough last 6-7 problems at the end. Other than that, it's still pretty accurate.

So Say for instance, if i took a test in Barrons and got a 52/60 in math and I used McGraw Hill's Scale because the Barrons book doesnt have one.. what can i expect..

this is my calculuation

52 x 36 = ans and then (ans/60) = 31.2 and it tells me to add +1 to it.. so that its a 32.2

so would my score be higher, lower or about the same as the calculated score.

if u read carefully you are not supposed to add that correction factor, thats only if u score below 24. your score would be 31, but keep in mine barrons is harder, so maybe u could add a point for the heck of it

Is PR the best ACT book out there for strategies? Honestly, I dont think it helped me very much for the English and rather left me confused.

Math is fine for me. I can deff practice a lot and get a near perfect but a perfect would be nice.

Science and Reading: I dunno about PR since the English one kinda confused me with that rhetorical skills thing.. im not sure.

can anyone clarify this for me?

thx

Yeah the McGraw Hill book's math tests are extremely easy. I took a math test in there and i got a 36 and finished in 50 mins. Same thing with all the other subjects.(except i diddn't get a 36 on all the other ones) Reading however was pretty accurate and science was a little easier than usual. On the real test i made a 29 on the math so u can judge that.

hear surgeon i agree with you on the math completely. however i wouldnt consider reading very accurate. the passages are shorter, questions are worded shorter and more simply as well. im consistently getting 33's on the reading, when on the real thing in april i got a 28. but MATH definetly BLOWS.

anyone kno the best book for science, it seems no matter what book science is easier, cuz you dont see any new representation of graphs like i did when i took the real thing in april.

i just decided to toss mcgraw hills and go wih princeton

Now that i remember ur right about the reading. the passages are only 2/3 long as normal ones

McGrawHill was accurate for me though:
December 2006 ACT Scores:
31 Composite
31 E
36 M
30 R
28 S

McGrawHill
31 Composite
29 E
33 M
30 R
32 S

I take back that message about MGH's accuracy.
24 E(-20)
32 R(-7)
31 S(-7)

lol is that actually mcgraw hill, or your real score??? cuz that would mean mcgraw hill was harder

McGraw Hill (April 12) --> Real ACT (April 14) / Real ACT(PSAE) (April 24)

34 --> 32/33 Composite
31 --> 31/34 English
35 --> 34/32 Math
33 --> 30/28 Reading
36 --> 33/36 Science

So yeah, the reading section is easier than the real thing and the other sections are pretty accurate.

nmehta4, that is the Mcgraw Hill score for one of the practice tests. :(

Well, the reading passages aren't that much shorter. I've done all 3 in the REAL ACT book too and they seemed equal in length to McGraw. McGraw simply has a smaller text.
