Anyone doing Engineering in Lafayette? Or any other Colleges or Uni?

none? please.

You might want to add some of your questions to the thread, yo.

Sixstringrocker is. Mechanical engineering major.

What’s up? Mechanical Engineering at Lafayette, Junior.

I was thinking of creating a thread to discuss about a few LACs and compare a handful of them and I found this one !
So, my question goes out to sixstringrocker( others and reply too), which LACs do you think are very good for engineering ? Can you please list few of them ?
Which of the following do you think is better? ( please list in order )
Lehigh, Lafayette, Middlebury, Trinity, Grinnel, Swarthmore, Colgate, Vassar and Harvey Mudd! ( you need not to list all of them, just 3/4)
Thanks in advance! :)

I heard really good things about Lafayette, so wanted to know about minimal requirements and environment and aid for international students.

Not many LACs have engineering. Few do, and they are usually strong. Imo, it’s partly because the engineering program is strong in itself, and partly because, as I have come to realize, a Liberal Arts environment really benefits a student. Combining LA and engineering=awesome.
There’s no better/worse. It’s all about the fit. Look at the school, see their programs and decide. I know people who’ve transferred from ivy leagues and places like georgia tech to Lafayette. AFAIK, the LACs with engineering are Union College, Harvey Mudd, Swarthmore, Trinity, Lafayette.

important: some LACs offer only a general “engineering” degree as opposed to places like Lafayette, which offer specific degrees like “mechanical engineering” “chemical engineering”, etc. Make sure you know what you’re looking to.

others can reply too, haha!, dunno how I wrote others ‘and’ reply too
Anyways, ,thanks a lot sixstringrocker, that gave me the direction!
Now, I clearly know what I have to do !
Search for the “fit” !

Rupesh Gajurel did computer engineering in Lafayette. Do a Google Search to find him.

hello,
I am also planning to apply to lafayette and I am interested in engineering…can anyone proofread my supplements. sixstringsrocker??

you can send them via PM but I’m not going to be able to look at them until sunday. I’m having my finals week (board exams). shoot me another PM on Monday if I haven’t replied by then.

okay…

and thanks in advance…

Hi, ok i was also looking for an engineering degree in national universities but from here i cam e to know that LA’s also offer engineering degrees. Now, can somebody help me, are the degrees offered by LA’s same as national universities(I mean can we do masters in engineering in any other national universities or not? with a engineering degree from LA’s).plz help…

I disagree. People from Lafayette routinely go to top research universities. Last year, two students went to Cornell, 1 to Yale, 1 to VA Tech-- that I personally know. there’re more students who went to other top universities.

Lafayette’s engineering is like any other universities’. It’s ABET accredited, just like the others. In fact, its even better in the sense that the classes are smaller, undergrads get more research opportunities and more interaction with professors=more learning.

I think this is not the place to ask this question but a little help will be appreciated. Previously, i was not interested in applying to us universities but now i am thinking i should give it a try. So, can i apply for colleges this year or i have to wait for the next year(AS i haven’t taken any tests SAT or Toefl). IF yes then when should i take these tests? plz help m in a great dilemma. NO, problem if i have to wait for the next year but just trying to know if i can apply this year. Any deadline that i can reach???

I think the deadlines for a lot of colleges have passed. Look up deadlines, or ask current applicants.

@paribesh
most of the colleges have deadlines in or around jan…it is not possible to complete all tests and application by then
but some of the colleges do have rolling admissions till may/june so should first decide on the colleges you want to go to and then formulate your plans accordingly.

@swtgal
Thanks, but i think i should wait for next year because i didnt find any good colleges with rolling admissions,though i haven’t checked any LAc’s. Looking for suggestions IF theres any…

LAC do not have rolling admissions (as per my knowledge)…
on a brighter note you’ll have a year to prepare for your college
Good Luck :)
