Hi,
I was wondering if anyone got accepted into their dream or reach schools. I applied to several places and I'm worried that I won't get accepted. It would be nice to hear if anyone thought they wouldn't get in anymore but they got in.

Plenty of people get into their dream colleges & are a bit surprised that the school accepted them. On the other hand, plenty of people are waitlisted or rejected by their dream colleges & are more than a bit surprised that they weren't accepted. The schools you like are pretty selective. Chances are, you'll get into at least one ... but there are no guarantees. That is why it is important to apply to safeties (none of these are real safeties, expect UM if you are instate, applied early enough, & the gpa you gave is high enough after UM's recalculation).

As for ACT, few schools superscore (use highest scores from multiple sittings).

Your A-'s & B are fine. Don't worry.

thanks, i really appreciate it! have you gone to a college you really wanted to go to?

My friend's son applied to all reaches & didn't get in. He was a strong student, but he just didn't have what they were looking for. He wasn't even accepted at UM instate (he was really surprised that he didn't get in, since kids in his school with worse scores/gpa were accepted ... not sure if he applied early enough). He bit the bullet & went to Oakland U for a year. While there, he made sure to get to know his profs, and he got great grades. He applied to UM for a transfer for sophomore year & got in. He is there and is VERY happy.

bumppp…have any of you have gotten into your reach school?

Another thing to bear in mind is that even if you make it to your reach school, you will probably struggle academically if the school grades on a curve–something I’ve seen many times at my school.

@miracleplease, your username makes your hopes pretty evident haha!

But on a serious note, there are and always is those surprise acceptances.
An example would be at my high school, last years class. The Valedictorian with EXTREMELY stellar stats (think perfect scores and national competitions) applied and got rejected by his dream school- Harvard. He got accepted and attends Yale which is not at ALL a downgrade but it was his 2nd choice. A girl though, who was ranked 11th, with high-ish (highly average on Ivy standards) grades and no hooks that I know of, was accepted to and attends Harvard. I’m not sure, it must have been her EC’s or a Pulitzer Prize worthy essay that got her the ticket. But nontheless, it was a huge rave at my school as people claimed that “a girl that wasn’t even in the top ten beat the Valedictorian”. It was certainly a rare case, it really was. It’s a wonder and I couldn’t guess how. It’s possible, but I can’t say it’s likely.
Best of Luck!
