@boardingschoolx No I haven’t even heard anything about the questionnaires yet! What about you?

@boardingschoolz The questionnaires are on the SPS portal– it’s on the “Decisions Online” page… under your acceptance notification.

Welcome new SPS students! My daughter is in 4th form this year along with IndyMom’s son.

You will take a language placement test that will be the basis for your placement, although if you think you’ve been placed in the wrong class you can always discuss a switch. Math doesn’t have a placement test but both the student and their current math teacher fill out a questionnaire.

You don’t absolutely have to take an arts class 3rd form year but a lot of kids do and it’s a good idea. Humanities is actually equivalent to 2 classes so if you take another academic class on top of Hum, science (usually Physics), language, and math you can be carrying a really full load. Plus, you have a class called “LINC” (Living in Community) once per week so that takes up some time.

Things get a little more flexible in 4th form especially if you’ve finished up the arts requirement. During that slot you can take more arts classes or electives in various subjects. If you get an HH (top grade) in 3rd form Humanities then you can take Hum electives as a 4th former, in addition to Hum 4. However, 6th formers (who are not taking a full-year 2-credit Hum class) have priority for the electives and 5th formers come next.

I’m sure it all seems really confusing but there is actually a lot of personalized attention to class schedules and you will be fine! With advisors assigned by dorm and no freshman dorms, every advisor only has a few new students in their group and they can give them lots of attention. Don’t feel like you have to be going 100mph right from the start - you’ll find your niche in time and you’ll love it there!

@friendlymom Thanks for all your insight!

Has anyone completed their language placement tests yet?

Or any placement test for that matter? I’m procrastinatingggg
