Hey, just thought it would be cool to have a spot just for those who are currently attending or are planning to attend SPS in the fall. Here you can offer insight, ask questions, or whatever...........have fun!

My son is a 4th former. Loves SPS but he still misses home.

My oldest son graduated from St. Paul's a few years ago. It's a special place. We all miss it!

babouche:

How did you son manage the adjustment to the boarding school environment? How was (is) the support structure at SPS?

The committment to wellness of students at St.Paul's is what makes the school so special. They have 100% boarding and the dedication to faith is unique for a boarding school.

My son, as all boys his age are, kept it all inside. He didn't really open up until the spring of his freshman year (I found out a year later). Of course, during that spring he made friends, had a lot of fun and as a result his grades suffered. But he is now in second year and loves it. His friends are great it is extremely demanding academically but after a first year of "soul searching", he is now well adapted and his grades have jumped. My wife was opposed to sending him away, but now she really thinks it was the best idea I've ever had (besides marying her)

babouche, have the controversies sps has had with the board of trustees and the hazing incident had any effect on the student life? Does your son mention any of these things? Do you think a lot of good teachers have left because of the current administration? thanks

Nothing has really changed, teachers are not leaving. Applications this year are at record level. 50% of kids are going to their first choice school. Live goes on. SPS will not sweep under the rug any kind of incidents. If kids misbehave, they will have to assume the consequences.

My older brother went to St. Paul. He graduated years ago though. He loved it and always raved about it. Tried to get me to apply but I can't do the boarding school thing. Haha :)

Very interesting insight babouche. We'll be attending SPS tomorrow for the revisit. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the dorms myself. How would you evaluate the level of supervision at SPS? Particularily in the dorms?

FxMom: dorms are really big houses, the room are clean and spacious. There are teachers living in each house. In a sense kids feel that they are on their own, but in fact they are closely supervised. Or at least, advisors are aware of everything that goes on. Besides, the workload is tremendous and they have no time. Sleep is a rare commodity.

Fxmom, enjoy the revisit. SPS is indeed a very special place. Boyfriend is a very involved alum and has friends who graduated with him who teach there now. No one is leaving. The events reported are mostly pretty silly and would not have been covered were it not such a reknowned school.

I went to Groton and Princeton and have lots of friends who went to great preps and colleges. I do not know any group of people who love a school more than SPS alum do.

I spent last summer at the Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul's. After that summer I truly wish I had had the opportunity to attend, but my parents couldn't deal with the whole boarding school thing. It was the most amazing summer of my life though, I lived in the dorms, which was a great experience. I lived in Brewster. My teacher was a faculty member of the school itself, so I must say they have amazing faculty. The summer program is different from the school, but being from NH it's a great experience that I would repeat in a heartbeat. St. Paul's has definately won a place in my heart.

Beautiful!! I really appreciate everyone's comments. Well...we're on our way to SPS....wish us well!! I'll be sure to report on our revisit experience.

I wouldn't be surprised if my son gave you the guided your

Whew!! Awesome!! Awestuck!
The revisit has thoroughly confirmed our feelings: that this is the right school for our son. I must say that the best part of the revisit was talking to the students. It's kind of like reading 'customer reviews' before purchasing a product online. The students' perspective, thoughts, experiences and pride in their school was priceless. We talked to students privately who had every opportunity to tell us to not send our child here. Instead, the opposite was true.

Oh....their new telescope is to DIE for.

Well, if it won't be Andover, SPS is next best. J/K, their new gym is really something. Good luck to your son, he'll have a great time!

slight little bump :-

I'd love to hear about how revisits went and what everyone has decided.

FxMom: Although it is probably superfluous, it might reassure you to know that your instincts are right and that St. Paul's is the right school for your son. The best way to get a flavour of the spirit of St. Paul's is to ask for their video, St. Paul's School Mentors. It was produced around the time my son was there so I can vouch that it represents authentically how the teachers relate to the students. do yourself a favour...
