Anyone got questions

Thanks Irish45221. I know this is largely a matter of personal preference, but would you suggest getting a 13" or 15" laptop?

I really like my 15 inch laptop, the 13 inch laptop is a little small.

If I recall correctly, my son purchased the Microsoft office package for $50 from OIT just last year!

112358, yeah, it really is about personal preference. I haven’t looked at the new specs myself but the 13" models often have better battery life. I have a 15" and it is more than adequate for what I need. If I could do it all over I would get the 13" 2.66 GHZ machine. It is a bit less expensive and a bit more portable. Either way you can’t lose.

Okay Im in High School and am very interested in joining gymnastics but my school doesn’t offer gymnastics. I was thinking that maybe i can join in college but i’m not sure if college coaches want some one already experienced or something. Do you know if you need to already have been in the sport before and know how to perform or do they also take beginnners.? Im pretty flexible and a fast learner

Hawkswim, do you find your 15" laptop easily portable?

as long as you buy the proper case, it isn’t bad - i usually go with a shoulder bag for my laptop and then a backpack for my books (if there are too many).

and i don’t think ND even has gymnastics or at least it isn’t a varsity sport i know that for sure.

Looks like gymnastics might be a Club sport in conjunction with Saint Mary’s. At the club level, I would imagine one could participate w/o having much experience. The above link may offer more info!

What about lofts for dorm rooms. How does that work and where do you get them
thanks

Hi, I will be applying this fall. I am interested in journalism (I will be editor-in-chief this year of my high school newspaper) but don’t know if I want to pursue it as a career. I know ND’s American Studies department offers a minor in journalism, which students can get only after taking an introductory class that the website states around 50 students apply for 18 spots.

Do any of you know anything about this program (other than the basic info on the site) regarding the criteria for admission into it, how difficult it is to get in, and whether or not students find it rewarding?

Thank you in advance for any advice!!!

My daughter has a 17in mac. Is it to big for school? I really would like to not have to buy a new one but if you think it will be too heavy for her I will!

Is social life constricted if you live off campus and have no access to vehicles? Is the general stereotype of the school being a jock school true? How is the inter racial/gender relations at school? And what are some of your favorite traditions?

Thanks!

tiredofwaiting, it really is up to her. The fact that it is a laptop means that it is portable and can easily fit in a case or backpack. If she has no problem carrying it from place to place then it really isn’t a problem.

benjskim, I really have no idea how people can all ND a jock school. If by jock they mean a campus where most students are physically fit, have athletic backgrounds, and have a genuine interest in most sports, then yes, I guess ND would be considered a jock school. But the negative and stereotypical characteristics that are often associated with the term are frankly hard to find at ND.

I have a question. Do people usually use their laptops in class or is it more common to take notes on paper? I’m arts & letters, so I’m not in any engineering or lab science classes.

I think the issue of laptops in class really depends upon the specific class and the prof. Some profs do not allow laptops to be used in class. For those classes where laptops are okay, I would say a handful of students use their laptop for note taking. But by far and away most use pen and paper.

What do most kids wear on campus to
class?
social events?
parties?

Are the neutral locations (ex. Army at Yankee Stadium) included in the student football season ticket? How does all of that work?

I have a few questions:

1) Are there any ND business students out there who could give me a general feel for the program?

2) Is there a Rec center / gym, and if so what is it like?

3) I’ve heard intramurals are very popular, how does that work?

Can you order your textbooks through Hammes bookstore so that they can already be sorted out and you can pick them up right at Hammes? I heard about this but haven’t seen anything about this.
