nikkei,

That problem hasn't been seen for months. Most of the early-gen bugs are completely gone.

UCLAri,

I was thinking of purchasing a refurbished one just because they are practically brand new, bug-free, and cheaper!

I don't know have any personal experience with Apple refurbs, but I've heard pretty good things. I would recommend a few things, though:

Make sure to leave an empty RAM slot for later

7200 RPM drives are awesome...consider paying more

GET A WARRANTY

Try to get a newer one. The 2.0 Ghz CPU ones and faster are usually a good bet.

512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)...Why did they have to go and do that?! :(

I should be fine with a 5400-rpm drive. 7200-rpm drives use more power, right?

About that, I would, but it costs $250 for the extended AppleCare Protection Plan. Taking into consideration the problems the new Macbooks have been having, it would not be a bad idea, however.

I figured the .17 Ghz performance difference between the two white Macbooks would not be noticeable.

Oh, Macbooks? Nevermind then. You're fine.

Trust me...$250 = huge marginal gain.

Are the Macbooks equipped with the Core 2 Duo processors?

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T5600 (2MB Cache/1.83GHz/667MHz FSB)

No, they have the Core Duos. However, if it helps any, most preliminary tests show that the marginal gains on speed are quite low with the Core 2 Duos.

Yeah, that's what I heard too.
I was just curious since I was comparing the prices of Dell laptops to Macbooks with similar specifications and only found the 1.83 Ghz from the Core 2 Duo processor.

Alright, I just bought my first laptop! :)

Do tell! Specs?

UCLAri...I have the 5400rpm drive on my mbp...how much of a difference is it compared with a 7200 rpm drive?

...and I think I should go get the applecare plan now..

I jumped on the Macbook (white / 1.83 Ghz).

Specs:

13.3-inch widescreen display

1280 x 800 resolution

1.83GHz Intel Core Duo1

512MB memory (2x256MB SODIMMs)

60GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive2

Combo drive (DVD-ROM, CD-RW)

It should be arriving sometime next week.

Speaking of laptops, I noticed that there were not many people with them in my classes. I figured at least 1/2 of everyone in each of my classes would have something. It's more like 1/8. Perhaps, everyone has a Macbook and are just getting theirs repaired at the Apple Store .

Nah. Most people just don't bring them.

I am thinking to myself how in the world I am going to be able to type on those small desks (if you can even call them that)!
I barely got through lecture because I was bumping elbows with both of my neighbors. Although, I do have to admit that the girl to my left was pretty cute, so I didn't mind bumping her ;).

I just received my Macbook today.
Hehehehehehehehe!!!
