I was assigned to a single in Mews Hall and am looking for someone to do a direct switch with me to a transfer student residence hall; either Cascadilla, Sheldon, and maybe even Edgemoore or Schuyler House. I'm a Hotel School transfer student and really would like a dorm on west campus where I can easily get to class. I hear Mews is really great, one of the best halls on campus, so this is not a bad switch! Please let me know if your interested!

I’d definitely look for either Casc or Sheldon. Schuyler is just a bit closer to campus (with a steeper hill too!) than the dorms from North Campus.

And I haven’t heard that Casc or sheldon is the transfer students resident hall. hm… interesting…

If you’re still interested, send a message to my inbox. I have a single in Sheldon Court and would consider trading rooms for a single in Mews. Its interesting that they put a non-freshman transfer in Mews, though.

^It happens if you sign up for housing pretty late (which I don’t know if you did). Also, sometimes they just can’t find any other place for others, so they had to place them to North since they promised everyone about “guaranteed housing” if your application is sent before (a date).

just so you know, the dorms you named are in collegetown (or below) and not on west campus. in my personal experience north campus and collegetown are about equally accessible to central campus (where Statler is). Cornell really isn’t that huge anyway.

I can see wanting to live with fellow upperclassmen though…that would be a reasonable justification for the switch.

Yuh know its funny because I actually applied very early and still got this assignment. I guess they are just really filled to capacity. Oh and yes I understand they are in collegetown. It looks like they are the closest dorms (besides actual west campus housing system dorms) to statler, and least it looks closer than Mews. Either way I’m just trying to be on the safe side - I’m from Hawaii and have never experienced a “real winter”, I don’t think hiking across campus in the snow is going to be my cup of tea :/

You will be hiking across campus either way. And actually, if it were in terms of distance, Mews is significantly easier to get to Statler.

The elevation difference is significantly less, and Mews is one of the closest dorms to central campus, and takes you all along the central road straight to Statler.

If it’s a social thing, however, I understand.

FWIW some of family was just touring campus, was very impressed with Mews.
( I didn’t go)

I’ve worked in just about every dorm on campus and I have to say if I had the choice I would take Mews over any of the alternatives. Mews is new, clean, and well designed. The other buildings all have issues associated with age and location.

As said earlier, if it’s anything other than social stick with Mews. Collegetown may be louder than freshmen dorms due to the bars. I new a girl that lived in Cascadilla who couldn’t sleep some nights because of the noise…

Not all grass is greener.

Thanks for the replies guys. But I am still set on getting a single in either Sheldon or Cascadilla. It is partly a social thing, partly a saving money on a meal plan thing, and partly a distance thing (on google maps Mews is twice as far as Collegetown)… and I’m also huge restaurant fan so being closer to them is definitely not a negative for me (plus I’m a solid sleeper)…So if anyone has a single and is wanting to be in Mews please let me know!

It’s my understanding that both Sheldon and Cascadilla are housing transfers this year, but there are more transfers in Cascadilla.
