Awesome thread

Just ask your headmaster to push for you. That’s what I did when I was on the waitlist for my #1 choice and I got in. (Top 10 prep schools)

@stanleyford how does that work? and congrats

First step is to call the admissions officer you met with. My daughter was waitlisted 2 years ago and 2 schools told her the same thing - a HAND WRITTEN letter from the STUDENT explaining that they would like to stay on the waitlist and then reasons why. And for ONE (and only one, as has been mentioned) give the “first choice” statement.

Depending on the school, the process is different. Both schools that year gave us hope that they would be going to the wait lists (and not “we read more into their words” hope, can’t go into detail here but it was real). And neither did. She was admitted to both the following year.

Then, it’s ok to check in with them a couple of times before April 10 and I have known a couple of cases where kids have come off WL’s ON April 10.

I am guessing that stanleyford attended a private day school with a headmaster who was willing to intervene on his behalf.

What stanleyford apparently does not realize is that many boarding school candidates (and members of this forum) do not enjoy such advantages. To the contrary, many of the students on this forum attend **public schools/b run by school administrators who wouldn’t recognize the student if they tripped over him, much less have any inclination to intervene on the student’s behalf. (Most public schools would rather keep their gifted students than send them off to boarding school.)

ah true dodgersmom, I’ve only went to public school in Korea (where there was a headmaster) so I assumed the same the same thing. To private schoolers, take my previous advice. I think I was 3rd or 4th on the waiting list (parents or advisor asked Milton).

Thanks for the clarification, stanleyford - I hadn’t even considered that public schools outside the United States might be set up differently . . . and have headmasters who are actually willing and able to intervene. Sadly, most often not the case here.

Does anyone have current info on lawrenceville WAitlist ? Thanks

Lawrenceville waitlist is officially closed they sent out an email.

Any information on Hotchkiss?

@Hellolove Yea… Hotchkiss said that they are gonna close it too

Well, they didn’t say they would officially close it, just that only a few students are usually accepted during spring/summer.

Got taken off choate’s waitlist just 3 days ago. Apparently they take 10-30% of their waitlist each year though…

Congratulations, celeryshtick!!!

celeryshtick - could you tell us if you are a boy/girl, board/day student?

Pretty sure female…reported applying to Miss Porters in this thread:
