Anyone have opinions on Chemical Engineering w/ bio option?

Title says it all.

I'm a first year science student and i am thinking of doing 2nd yr starting CHBE course at UBC (ahha i know im canadian). Can anybody tell me what it is like? currently i take 1st yr structural chem ( fun course), bio, Calculus (even more fun course) and physics which is my weakest subject. The thing that draws me to Chem Eng is that everyone tells me it is not too much pure physics. Is that true? Does proficiency in Calculus help me alot?

Thanks

Well proficiency in calculus will def help since Differential Equations, which is based on calculus, will be important for engineering I think

do you have DE and Multi down already? calculus is important to all engineering, so yes.

i am only in first year. so i have only taken limits derivatives and all that jazz. but i know integrals too…

but DE and Multivariable do not seem too difficult. a few of my older friends have told me if i am good at the basics and i work hard there is no reason i will not succeed at DE and Multi

^Well I agree with your friends

haha ok. but im wondering if i can make it through if im not the greatest at mechanical physics?

bump. any chem engineers here?

As others have said, yes, calculus is important.

However, physics really doesn’t matter for ChemE. I had to take 3 quarters my first year and never needed it again. (I just finished my B.S.)

Although, if you’re good at calculus, I would think that mechanics oughtn’t be too difficult.
