Anyone have opinions on these schools for Graphic Design...

I have been narrowing down my list of schools to go to for Graphic Design and have gotten it down to 16 schools. If anyone has any opinion or comment or anything about any of these schools I would greatly appreciate it!!

University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth
University of Massachusetts - Lowell
North Carolina State
Buffalo State College
Purchase College
RIT
Skidmore College
SUNY New Paltz
SUNY Oswego
Syracuse
University at Buffalo
Arcadia
Millersville University
James Madison University
Old Dominion University
Virginia Tech

The one that jumps out for me is NC State: Meredith Davis has a good program going there that is stronger than most on the theory side of things and well respected. After that Syracuse and RIT are all right as well, but in very different ways. I'd really advise you to look at the schools in terms of how much they lean towards advertising vs. design, and that might help you sort out this long list in a more organized way, since I notice you've got a bit of a mixture going there.

I am familiar with RIT. It was a very strong program when I checked it out.

Thank you! I am well aware I have a lot more research to do on all these schools such as the curriculum and actual visits to some of the campuses. I would also like to discuss things with my advisor at school. I am not applying until the fall because I am currently going for my associates at community college and will be graduating there in spring '09 and transferring in the fall. Much work to be done until then!! :)

SUNY New Paltz has a great Graphic Design program. I think it's 5 years though. You need a portfolio review to be accepted. It has an excellent reputation and the added plus of being in a very artsy community as well.

More familiar with the schools in Va. ODU and VT aren't really known for their Graphic Design programs; JMU has probably the best reputation of the three you have. In VA the school that is best known for its strength in art majors is VCU in Richmond.

okay thank you both! i visited New Paltz in april... it was pretty great but i wanna see all my options before settling on one school... 5 years for a degree is no problem... i am in no rush to get a degree... i spent a year as a bio major at ramapo and am now working on an associates at my local community college...

i had cut out vcu because when i read the reviews it seems too urban for my taste... i cut out all schools in nyc, boston, etc because i do not feel ready to handle a city on my own yet
