AMGLeague - From what I heard you have to take Expo Writing, unless you took AP English and received a four or a five in the exam. And Expo Writing, from what I heard from previous expo students, is a pass and fail course. So it does not effect your GPA.

Unfortunately shy11, expos is NOT a pass/fail course. Oh, how I wish it were =[

It does effect your GPA (it screwed mine up last semester).

Maybe the student was talking about the final in-class paper. THAT’S “pass/fail”.

Sorry =(

How are language classes at Rutgers? I’d like to take Chinese/Spanish, but I hear there are native speakers who take the class for the easy A and destroy the curve…

(I have taken Spanish in-school and Chinese outside-of-school, but I’m pretty horrid at Chinese still. Plus, I learned traditional… if that means anything to you.)

Also, how can I find out my requirements for graduation before meeting with my advisor? I’m doing engineering and my booklet said I will not meet with an advisor to create my schedule, instead, I’ll mail in my registration and they will schedule everything for me.

Hey, Mush, I dont mean RUtgers is an Easy school for getting an A. I just hope I work hard enough to get a lot of A’s at Rutgers

Which Rutgers are you at now? Im going to NB

So when do first year students hear back about what housing they got? I’m asking about New Brunswick. Thanks!

AMGLeague: I’m at Rutgers New Brunswick. I love it here. Hey! You could get all A’s – if you work hard and able to overcome some of the diabolic teachers here that make it impossible for students to get A’s. I’m sure that there has been people who graduated with perfect GPAs.

mikel12541: First years don’t hear about housing assignments and roommates until early August =(

When is the housing/dining deposit due? I cant pay that until next week

will i be able to get an upperclassmen to register my car for me for parking?

im transfering to RU NB next fall, do tranfers get housed together ( if we manage to get housing at all that is ) ? i understnad that we arent notified until august, but that seems so late.

What do I do with my AP credit?

and when?

thank you!

chey: transfers are pretty much placed wherever there is space so there is not a designated dorm or even floor of a residence hall where all the transfers are put like at other colleges.

koto: yeah native speakers are all over the place in elementary chinese classes. but there will also be non-asians taking the course as well so the curve might not be too bad. also language classes tend to be smaller so other people’s grades do not have such a large effect on yours. and they do teach simplified here, so that could be difficult for you, maybe. but I haven’t heard anything bad about the spanish or chinese departments.

and nominal: are these ap credits from the previous year or ap credits for exams you’re taking in may? because if you haven’t taken the exams yet, when you take the exam, you fill out a little section that says where to send the credits to, and collegeboard takes care of that for you, almost automatically. and if the credits are from the previous year, you probably just go to collegeboard and request the credits from them. you should probably do this before or at least during the summer, before august which is when your fall 2009 schedule is being put together.

ah yeah, when we had to do some paper work for the ap tests coming up, i filled in the spot to send all of the AP scores to Rutgers

i guess when they release the new scores in mid july, thats when RU will get all my score

To place out of Expository Writing do you have to get a 4 or 5 on AP Literature and Composition? Or is AP Language and Compostition acceptable too?

If we’re automatically placed into Expository Writing, then why do we have to take a Reading placement test?

You’re not automatically placed into expository writing until you do well with the reading and writing portion of the placement exam.

Some people are placed into a prerequisite writing class (Basic Composition) if the placement tests show that they need to work on their writing skills a bit more. After they take that class and pass, they then can take Expository Writing.

AP lang is good for expos credit.

chem and bio are supposed to be very, very difficult. i don’t really know how much summer prep would help you. I would recommend seeing your TA (if there is not one, well, there should be). and group tutoring is available on all the campuses (not yet for bio but the sas honors program offers one on one tutoring and bio would be included in there). and def keep up with reading and whatnot.

what I got from the ap credit site for rutgers is that ap english lang can be used for expos 101. ap english lit can also be used for expos 101. if you have a 4/5 on lang AND and 4/5 on lit, though, you can fulfill both expos 101 and expos 2.

Hey guys had a quick question. When I went to the Rutgers website it said that 600+ will get exempt from the writing/reading (the english part basically) from the Accuplacer. What if you got exactly a 600, can you be exempt?

How is the English program? I want to major in English in addition to getting my teacher
certification. How are the instructors? Also, is there an ESL minor thing I can do? I want to teach English abroad for a few years and then settle in the states.

I hope somebody can help =/.
