I know decisions will be posted in a couple of days but I'm kind of on edge at the moment (especially after the UCLA wait list). Any kind of feedback would be awesome.

I was recommended EECS over CS but after reading some posts about how much Cal weighs your GPA I've been getting a bit nervous. I've been accepted at UCI and UCSD, waitlisted at UCLA, and rejected at MIT and Caltech.

You’ve got a pretty good shot, yeah. UCLA is (allegedly) much heavier on stats than Cal is, so unless your essays were completely terrible you should be fine. Hell, even if you’re not, it looks like you have the motivation to succeed in your field regardless of where you get your degree.

Hmm I don’t get this one, LA waitlisted you?? Maybe it was your essays? (Cal puts a lot of emphasis on those, so if it helps to know that…) Don’t fret though, I got almost the same exact stats as you (CR and W numbers switched around for SAT I), rejected from LA and accepted to Cal (among others, but chose Cal in the end, yeah!), so whaddya know, things work out.

Anyway those are pretty good stats so relax a little. I’m going to agree with the others and barring any essay-related meltdown, chances are good.

Well, as much as I’d like to agree with that, I’m sure UCLA had their reasons…

I generally got decent feedback on my essays, so they should be fine. But they did both involve computers in some way so maybe I didn’t show enough breadth? What major did you get accepted to in Cal? Hoping to have an open mind about this until Thursday evening.

From what I’ve observed, Berkeley does tend toward the sob story + genius story combo for essays. Well it’s too late now anyway, just relax and wait.

Since outside of certain majors everyone gets admitted as undeclared, I don’t think my major had anything to do with admission, although I’m almost done with my poli sci/soc/city planning thing.

really solid app, and you’re really concentrated (ecs and aps are relevant to major) hopefully adcoms saw that! best of luck to you. i’ve actually heard that cal is more of an sat school whereas la is a gpa school! hopefully there’s some truth in that hahah :(

I’m surprised UCLA waitlisted you man. Maybe we can agree that breadth is not your strong suit, but the (science) stuff that you do, you obviously do well. As for MIT & Caltech, well, who the heck really knows what they’re looking for. But yeah, I don’t see why you wouldn’t have a good shot at Berkeley.

This old thread from March, 2012 has been resurrected… To answer your question, if you search OP “Buffer” recent posts you’ll find one yesterday in the UC San Diego Forum stating:

"I’m an incoming freshman like yourself so I can’t say from experience, but from looking at the CSE11 website (CSE 11 Home Page) and CSE12 website (CSE 12 - Course Information), CSE11 seems like it would just be a repeat of APCS. "
