It’s okay-- not devastating, but you know, it still isn’t very cool. I got a 20k+ scholarship with another school (so my parents are gently “hinting” how it would be much easier for all of us if I took that offer), but it’s sort of small and not well-known. I like it a lot, but you know how it is… your dream school IS your dream school. Nothing else really touches it. And the scholarship school is not my top choice.
If it’s not too personal… and I’m pretty sure there’s at least a few of you out there… who else might have to give up their dream school because they don’t have enough money to go?

Penn! Congrats on getting in... that's so awesome. :) Sorry to hear about the money.

Where will you be going instead? Are you thinking about transferring for soph/junior year if you can get a scholarship at Penn later on? That's what I'm thinking for my dream school...

one guy did here. i can't recally his sn at the moment, i'm sure someone else can. but he posted here a lot and he picked vanderbilt (gave him lots of money) over yale or princeton i believe, which was his dream school. his post was featured once before and he had a very positive experience, even though vanderbilt wasn't his first choice.

well, i know my cousin got into yale for pre-law but is going to U of Arizona because he his mom is overly protective and won't let him out the house.

My D got into Pepperdine but only recieved loans and work study. All her other colleges are 20,000 to 25,000 less expensive after deducting merit and grants from the total. She has had to regroup quickly as she had decided on Pep and recieved finaid info last week. She has 3 visits scheduled in the next 2 weeks, Trinity University, St. Louis University(entey level PT doctrate program) and U.san Diego. It should be a wild ride!

my friends dream school is NYU too. we both got in but have not received fin aid yet. i already decided on wellesley as they gave me practically a full ride. so i hope his goes better, which i know wont since most people havent been with NYU. they basiclly give you workstudy and loans, which is NOT really aide since u have to work and pay them back.

I did not even apply to my dream school because I knew I couldn't afford it, plus my sister went through that whole deal 10 years ago with the same school. Well she didn't get accepted anyways. It was the Illinois Institute of Art in Chicago.

My son gave up William and Mary (out-of-state) for 1/2 tuition at Bucknell. He's very happy. It was disappointing to get the fin aid, or lack thereof I should say, from one of his top schools. We have tried to get our children to fall in love with more than just one--but it's hard.

My son was excited to be accepted as a trumpet performance major at Indiana University, but they only gave him a few thousand in loans and work study. His band director is and IU alumnus and has really been pushing the college to my son, but I don't see any way we can do it without some grant money.

Fortunately my son does have some other good options, just not with the reputation of IU in his area of interest.
