My GPA is a 3.4 but I put 3.3 on my application which probably screwed me. By the end of this semester I will have at least a 3.5, but that won’t matter.

This is so frustrating because my major is Political Science; which as of last week, was not full. This isn’t an impacted major as well. I have been ‘Eligible for Consideration’ for about 6 weeks now.

calpolyengineer, thanks for your postive encouragement however how do you justify the selectiveness poly is pulling. lets be honest, poly is a good school but nowhere on par with Davis, Irvine or Santa Barbara. I grew up in the area and poly was always the safe school. If you knew you were ready for a university but you didnt have stellar grades, its where you went. I am not dissing the school, I am just being honest. Poly was easy to get into. Thise is why its so upseting. A school that a few yrs ago was often a backup school for local kids, wont even let in students with above the minimum required gpa. Can you tell me that its because quality has improved? No if anything its decressed. We all know poly is currently cutting way to many corners due to the budget crisis. How then is this a good thing? Fewer students getting a worst education is not only horrible for them but our country as a whole.

While I agree with your overall message, I’d like to clarify that CPP was also the first choice school for people in a select few majors, such as civil and mechanical engineering, animal science and architecture and came from far away to attend this fine institution. It’s unfortunate that it took a budget crisis for the rest of the university to raise their admissions standards. I agree, I’d much rather have the quality of programs be accountable for these recent changes.

JL2688: CPP is not just randomly choosing to be more selective. There are too many applicants for the spaces available. The available spots are probably even less due to budget cuts. I agree that it sucks, but when there are too many people applying they have to turn away some of those applicants. The competition has become fierce in the State of CA and the schools that used to be “easy” are suddenly difficult to get into without stellar stats. My son got turned away from all 3 UC’s he applied to rejected from CP SLO also. :(

While its not random it just seems if this is what has to happen because of all the budget cuts they could at least try to somehow also improve programs since they are now on par apparently with ucs
I am sorry to hear that though about your son and i hope him the best

(I’m a transfer student from RCC, and 22 years old) My currents status atm is: “UGRD Clear After Prov Admit” for Cal Poly Pomona as an Electrical Engineer,in which I got the notice last week. I have 69 transferable units (81 after this semester ends), so I am way over budget on units, and I only have a 2.94 GPA. I had shown interest in Cal Poly Pomona since I was a Senior in High School, (went on a field trip there and got my name in their system). I then joined Bronco VIP, in which allowed me to see the “preview day” (in other words, a campus tour) and had to sign my name there as well. Showing interest in the college along with completing the 4 golden courses (english 1A/1B [College Critical Thinking], Oral Communications and Mathematics [atleast Pre-Calculus]) then you have a higher chance of getting in. All my transferable units are over budget on GE rather than core classes as well. I didn’t take any college physics yet, i just started calculus and finishing up Chemistry. Going to a community college maybe discomforting but it will definitely set you up for a CSU or UC. That’s how I went along with getting into Cal Poly.

(as a note too, you can go in as another profession close to your desired profession (if its impacted) to just get your foot in the door at the university. Then you can opt for a petition to change your program when you have the needed classes for your desired program)

(and the new buildings they are building seems controversial, but they are only allowed to spend the money they got for those buildings, for those buildings. Education is on a different fund and thats what was hit hard)

My status is still pending, but at least they just fixed my bronco direct applicant major to Mechanical Engineer from EE. It only took them 4 months to fix it :P

I’m hoping this is a good sign, I really want to attend CPP :)

Hi, marcgalera. Just wondering what is you status right now. I think we have the same story, my status just change from eligible for consideration to waitlist…oh well, all i can do is wait for the best

hi b1989r. yeah, my status changed from eligible for consideration to waitlist, and then 2 days ago, cpp emailed me asking if i wanted to stay on wait list, and i replied yes. i hope this is some helpful information for you.

Yep. I got waitlisted as well after being eligible for consideration for awhile. I got that same email about wanting to stay on the waitlist and they said a decision would be made by late May so that’s another month to wait. This sucks. I guess I’m going to community.

sigh my first ideal dream choice, cal state long beach just sent me a letter saying I was rejected despite meeting and being above basic requirements all because the budget crisis made admissions more competitive.( i knew i wouldnt get in cause its program was impacted before budget cuts)
i just checked my status and it now says waitlisted (this changed sometime this afternoon or evening, last i checked i was eligible for consideration at 2pm) I didn’t get an email asking me if I wanted to stay on the waitlist

FYI for waitlist status: you guys should email the admission office if you are want to remain on waitlist status. My status change from waitlist to accepted waitlist, something like that. Good luck everyone

@c21megan I was also rejected.
This sucks all because of Budget Cuts.
It had to be our year, when California died out
with money.
Which CsuF are you attending Fresno or Fullerton?
