Anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet?

This is some of the cost measures that may be adopted due to the budget mess:

http://www.calstate.edu/pa/BudgetCentral/CSU_Strategies_05_12.pdf

Hey so does anyone know how is the business program ad CPP. and my student orientation is on July 26, so do you think i may get core classes for my major?

and yea i read somewhere that the people who transfer to a 4 yr university has a better GPA in the end of their graduation. but yea if you have a gpa of 3.0 or above and a decent SAT, then i would suggest you to go to a 4 yr school as transferring is a bit hard due to the budget cuts.

Anyways i wish all the best to every one in this forum and i really hope and pray to God that all of you achieve your academic and career goals. NEVER LOOSE HOPE…one day you all be proud of yourselves …:)

I don’t necessarily agree.

A lot of students from here get into Berkeley or UCLA. Maybe it’s just the type of friends I make, but I’d say 80-85% of them are going to either, most going to Berkeley. The others are either going to Cal Poly SLO/Pomona. Anyway, it’s anecdotal but honestly a lot of my friends who have transferred to these schools don’t necessarily feel “prepared”. A friend of mine I thought was very smart and is graduating with a GPA in the 2’s at UCLA after getting a 4.0 here. He basically came to the school and blamed all of his professors for not preparing him adequately enough, but I think it was probably his own personal fault.

I don’t think it is the CC’s job to prepare you. That certainly seems like it doesn’t happen here. Learning how to rely on yourself you could do at either institution, which I think is just really what your success could come down to. But this is just me and my friend’s experiences at our community college.

I can compare Berkeley with a CC because it is obviously tougher there than it is at a community college. Judging by most of my friend’s histories at Berkeley and UCLA, they did not feel adequately prepared and had to make that extra “jump” to save themselves. Some did just fine, a lot of them struggled for a bit.

I’m sure CC transfers are more likely to graduate. I just wouldn’t say it is good preparation in general for the work of a top level UC based on other people’s experiences that I know. But I guess it just depends on what you’re doing. Most of my friends are engineering majors, physics students, or mathematics majors.

the fall 2012 housing application for the dorms has been closed, pretty lame as i live like an hour away from pomona.

I was told they will find accomodations for the late admits. In past years, some of the FTF ended up in some of the better facilities…that may be an incentive for some. My personal opinion is that they are under a pile of paper in admissions and they have not had the chance to get through all the people so they waitlisted them.

They have been admitting people even in impacted programs these past few days. I am assuming if your major is not impacted, there is a good chance for you as well. Also, those that were admitted must come up with the cash this year. Not a lot of freebies out there…that being said, I know for a fact several of my students have declined and will attend a CC. This is now push coming to shove. If you don’t pay, you are deleted and then next person is up. Kinda the way it works. If you don’t pass a HS course, you are deleted, so, can things open late June…you bet!!!

As far as CC, unless you are very self motivated, CC is a very tough place to be. You will not get the connection like in a four year. Also, these days, students have to enroll in more than one just to take a full load. Not the best of the best. Is it easier to get to a UC from CC, well, today it is. Next year, who knows…things are changing. CSU is going to be difficult to get into next year…in fact, they have already a freeze on fall 2013 entrances…If that is true about the CSU’s, what will it mean for the UC’s? Out of state!!!
Take the businesses, the education, take everyone…out of state!
What a bummer!

I thought it was a requirement for FTF to live on campus the first year. So I guess there are going to be facilities found for housing for late admits. Hopefully, I’ll be one of those lucky bundles getting into CPP. Money isn’t my worries at the very least at the moment.

fall 2012 dorms apps are open

just checked my BroncoDirect & I AM ADMITTEDDD, I am so excited and wanted to share the news with you, my app status changed from “Referred to Impacted Plan” to “Admitted Clear”, all this waiting’s paid off. I hope everyone here who’s waiting will get accepted as well. :smiley:

Smart barbie did you send in any transcripts

Sent from my SPH-D700 using CC

Congratulations! that’s awesome. anyone else admitted pls share :)

Nothing yet. . .
Wait is killing me >.<

@smartBarbie
You were a transfer, right?
Think they’ll make any decisions next Friday on June 1st?
Seems like this is their “wait list” for transfers.

thanks everyone, I haven’t sent any final transcripts since I’m not done with my Spring semester yet. It was surprising to me as well that I’m admitted clear, I was expecting a provisional acceptance first. I’m guessing since I’m done with my major classes that might be the reason.

and I am a transfer :)

Welp, no dice this round (Still referred to impacted). This is typically done Fridays only right?

I was never on the wait-list, but I got my acceptance on a Tuesday. But yeah, they do seem to release batches of acceptances on Friday. I remember a lot of people here getting accepted the same day as I did and on a few Fridays before that.

Good luck. I am hoping for my friend to get in.

@smartBarbie: Congratulations!
