My friend just got accepted today around 4 PM PDT for a Bio major, his stats were GPA ~3.1 and SAT score of close to 1800

So… anyone get in as comp sci major freshman under grad?
I got 3.4 weighted ~1870 sat

@Dimas It’s cool that you’re still considering CPP! I saw that you got accepted at UCSB for Mech.E, so I thought you would probably go there. I’m going to keep waiting, but it’s killing me right now. I’d definitely cancel any SIR that I do for CPP though!

Anyone still waiting on MechE?

I’m seeing that they’ve worked their way down the chain of majors to the ~3.2ish range and I was a bit above that with a 1900 SAT, so I am quite worried to say the least.

I did indicate my second major as being Business Administration, so I might get in that way and then switch later afterwards, but still.

@collegebound

What do you mean exactly by “…they’ve worked their way down the chain of majors to the ~3.2ish range.” You mean admissions going through the applications? Because it doesn’t seem like they even go in order since my friend got in with ~3.0 & 1800SAT for mechE but he’s incoming freshmen though while my chemE transferring friend w/ a 3.6 hasn’t gotten a reply yet… (wth is going on lol)

I’m still waiting for them to send a reply, at this rate I might as well just transfer to csulb…

Well, there are several factors that CSUs take into account.

E.I. Index Calculation:
GPA x 800 (Mathematically the most important) +
SAT Score (Math and Reading)

i.e. (3.0 * 800) + 1100 = 3500

Was your friend local to cal poly pomona? That would be really the only other reason why he might get an easier admission. They will admit students of much lower stats if he/she was in their service area.

I just inferred that this was how they ran things down there at the admissions office. If you look earlier on in this thread, you can see that the persons who were admitted with high GPA’s seemed to be first and then the admissions staff worked their way down the line. If you look at the acceptances, the 3.6+ students claimed admission months ago while the trend is now about a ~3.2 range.

Since they only have so many spots, it would make sense that they crunch the numbers and start offering seats to the highest up and work their way down until all seats are taken.

Again, this is total speculation on my part. I haven’t talked to an admissions officer or have any proof of the methodology. It just seems to make sense.

I completely share your frustration though. Knowing that your friend got in with those stats makes me much happier. It wouldn’t make much sense for them down there to admit random applications without rhyme or reason without having some sort of process.

Impacted majors at CPP don’t admit by local CC’s/HS’ right now (from what admissions have told me). But that doesn’t apply to either one of them since they’re both from the Pasadena area lol.

**"What if I apply to an impacted program?

Please review which majors are impacted at the program level and therefore, there is no distinction between local-area and non-local area applicants in the admission process. All candidates must meet regular University admission standards, and meet any additional standards required by the Departments."

**

There’s a lot of people that haven’t gotten their letters yet either. Here’s another case (both transferring from PCC) one has a 2.6 cumulative GPA (UC+CC GPA + disqualified from UCSD) while my other friend has a 3.21. They’re both transferring into CS but my 2.6 friend got in while my other friend is still at “application received.” They finished all of the same classes (GE+major pre-reqs)

I don’t even know why it’s taking them that long, csulb got hit with 80k apps this year iirc and they got through to a lot of them already. :

on a side note: my chemE friend got into SLO so she doesn’t even care about cpp now lol.

Oh really? That’s very surprising news if CPP specifically doesn’t operate within their service area. Most other CSUs do, but they might be the exception due to their status as a polytechnic along with SLO. Thanks for bringing that up.

It looks like historically they’ve had problems with their admissions system. Even back in 2010 you can see students venting the same frustration that we currently have only to be relieved in late April or even sometimes May.

It would seem that admitting students with lower EI scores first is quite illogical don’t you think? Could it be possible that they’ve already decided who will attend and just really commit to their rolling admission system? I wish they’d answer our questions when we called about this sort of thing. What do they have to lose?

When I did call on monday, the office said they were going to be sending out a significant amount next week (April 15-April 19).

Everything they’re doing is illogical at this point hahahaha

I call shenanigans lol

A few days ago I called and gotten an answer something about April 15, and earlier today, I called again and they told me that they had till May 1 for admission decisions. It really frustrates everyone, since the length of time is really close to the final decision. Especially if Cal Poly Pomona doesn’t fall through, housing applications need to be filled out after you accept from a CSU (at least it is for CSUDH), and even come May 1, it gives those students who have wanted to go to Cal Poly Pomona a difficult time to submit their intent to register or enroll, plus they also have to withdraw from whatever school and lose their deposits. For Chemistry majors, last year there was a post in this thread that they were admitted by April 24, so I’m waiting till at least April 30, so that I can apply for priority housing to my reserve college.

April 15th rings a bell.
That’s the last day to apply to be exempt from housing.

@oreocory321 Is there suppose to be something next to my “APPLICATION RECEIVED”?

@DerangedCorgi

I’m in a similar situation as your friend, CS major, DQ’d from UCSD and went to CC and have a ~3.0 cumulative GPA now. My application is still at “Application received” though, so your friend gives me some hope.

@kiakoko it should be right under application status. Ill take a pic and try to post it up.

I got accepted back in March 21st as an EOP undeclared

Gpa uw: 3.1
Act 21

Sent from my SGH-T999 using CC

How do you know you got through eop?

@kiakoko I couldn’t upload it. Is there another way to send it to you?

I guess EOP sends you the accpetance email first… then a few days later i got the
Email from pomona saying I was accepted
And my status says provisionally admitted as EOP
Sent from my SGH-T999 using CC

oh I got in through EOP as well.
high five! I shall be seeing you at the summer bridge program.

Ahah I shall see you there :)

Sent from my SGH-T999 using CC

Aww mine doesn’t say through eop
is it possible to get it late? :o
