Anyone heard from CSUs?

I’d rather not ignore anyone’s posts if I have a supported response to them. I’d much rather engage in an enlightened discussion that serves to compare my premises against anyone else’s that might disagree with mine. However, if rationality and understanding isn’t at the goal of the discussion of course it’s just easier to dismiss someone else’s point of view and not look back than to specifically address their argument without a malicious attempt to vilify them. No hard feelings though. :)

no its hard feelings you insulted me by basically stating that attending a CSU is for people who don’t want the riches of a UC.

I’m sorry you feel that way, but forgive me if I don’t necessarily see why you’re offended even if you interpreted my previous post as implying “people that go to CSUs don’t want the riches of UCs” although that isn’t quite what I said. Regardless, let’s evaluate that statement against your specific situation:

Your first choice is a UC (UCD or UCI I think you said).

Given the opportunity to select between a UC and CSU you’ve implied you would select a UC.

Therefore, there are more personal benefits for you in a UC.

Selecting a CSU over a UC would be counter-intuitive.

On that condition, you would have to “not want” the “riches” of a UC to go to a CSU for your situation. You feel offended that you thought I said this?

For the record, I think those that are unbiased and have thorough reading comprehension skills would’ve interpreted my initial premise somewhere along the lines of, “Among the people that have applied and intend go to a UC, those that had to choose CSUs as back ups generally do so because of a lack of confidence in their academic performance in CC, a need for validation, or they’re unsure of their goals.” The observed population is prospective UC transfers that choose CSUs as back ups. Not those that have to go to CSUs or those that don’t want to go to UCs and only CSUs.

i go to UC because i want my mother to know her child when to the best, and because i want to know if i WAS good enough, i have a long history of academic failure.

I WANT to go to SFSU, i LOVE san francisco. I don’t really want to go to any UC except Irvine. I am med school driven, i am a non trad, prestige isn’t a necessity for me.

but there is NOTHING wrong with a CSU. only better thing at a UC is research. I don’t care about any other factors, those are irrelevant, the teachers at CSU’s are underrated. I would NOT be disappointed or sad if i GOT rejected from ALL 4 UC’s and had to go to SFSU.

Interesting, in your mind you’ve already stratified the two systems. To you and your mother you believe UCs are the best option for your education. You said you want to attend SFSU, citing only the location as your option. Clearly there is a factor of prestige, UC > CSU to the point that you’d select a UC that isn’t in your desired location because you perceive it to look better for med school. The reality is that for med school, your GPA and MCAT scores hold a lot more weight than anything and often times research opportunities at UCs are harder to come by because more students are interested in them. And you even said that professors at CSUs are underrated. Your selection of UCI > SFSU is based on perception, that perception is prestige whether or not you want to acknowledge it.

I really don’t see why anyone would take offense to my remarks, unless they felt inferior themselves for attending a CSU or self-pitying having to potentially end up there. I given the chance would attend Stanford University. I don’t have the academic repertoire to be admitted so I’ve decided to apply to UCLA, where I’m very confident I’ll get in. I applied as a freshman to Stanford and wasn’t admitted. My lack of confidence in my academics to attend Stanford made me select UCLA as a back up. Now if someone told me that would I feel offended? No, because I’m content in my decision to go to UCLA. Those that take offense with anything I’ve said only perceive the insults likely because they’re already unhappy in someway and wouldn’t be content at a CSU.

im not reading your miscellaneous irrelevance. I’m not downplaying CSU’s simple as that. I respect CSU’s, I have nothing negative to say in regards to a CSU. end of story. SF State/SDSU IS a HIGH contender in my decision, on equal level to UCI/UCD/UCSD/UCLA

like i said just ignore me and ill ignore you, matter of fact I’m adding you to my ignore list right now.

That’s fine if you don’t have the capacity to read, comprehend, and synthesize a refuting remark then by all means ignore it. Again I don’t have to ignore your comments because I can respond and discern them in a rational and critical way that seems to leave you frustrated to the point that you’re either unwilling or unable to do the same. To be honest, it doesn’t really surprise me that you can’t respond. It’s a tactic that seems common for you on these forums, you get in discussions that you can’t finish usually with people that you attack for having different options then flee them leaving the false “I’ll take the higher road” remark.

Regardless, all of that is irrelevant to the fact that it begs the question of why you were insulted in the first place. Again, if you were truly content in attending a CSU your shouldn’t have perceived any offense as someone in your situation isn’t even among the those that I was referencing. To me it appears that prestige is a significant factor for you, you’re just not willing to admit it. You seemed to be upset that I touched on that. If SFSU and all the UCs are undoubtedly equal, I’m sure you’ll end up SIRing to SFSU as it’s in the location you desire. If not, perception would seem to play a large part in your decision.

so now my posts get edited?

anyways, bruins write what you want, but your opinion is just that.

I applied…I’ve known people with ridiculously high GPAs to get rejected from UCs. I applied to SJSU and SFSU. I can’t picture myself going there, especially since I did a TAG, but if nothing else an acceptance in my hand would be nice…I haven’t received anything though. SFSU asked for my transcript because my major is impacted. Is it weird that I haven’t heard back?

I just found out I was accepted to Sonoma State! I applied to this school because I loved the campus, it’s cheaper, and smaller so hopefully more personal attention. I can also switch into psychology there (I hope), unlike at a UC where it’s impacted. Education is what you make of it, the smaller, more student-focused classes at CSUs is very appealing. It seems like UC classes are more lecture-oriented whereas CSUs are more discussion oriented because of what I mentioned above. I am going out on a limb here so please correct me if I am wrong.

^^^Please do not take impacted majors so seriously. You can switch at a UC if you so choose.

Don’t even waste your time on that guy. If I were putting down the CSU’s and bending over for the UC’s like that, I’d only be doing it for one reason: I’m not really trying to convince you, I’m trying to convince myself.

And I can think of a couple of things SDSU offers over say… UCSD. I know several of you know exactly what I’m thinking of so no need to say it.

Some folk are so weird, I’m starting to believe we really did get kicked out of Africa… :|

hey thanks sal’

anyone that has applied to SJSU, has any part of your mySJSU login page changed on the right column?

mine still says pending review-adm process :(

they’re releasing decisions next friday though!

but has your financial aid status on the right side column changed?

@ salmos what does SDSU offer that UCSD doesn’t? just curious, my d-bag brother went to SDSU and he think’s he’s the **** even though he’s 28 and jobless. SDSU can’t be that great of a school right? I was kind of hoping if I got into UCSD it would shut him up.

Oh and this girl I was talking to in my class said she got accepted to cal state san bernardino two weeks after she applied. She told me they send her emails constantly and she wishes she never applied there bc they won’t leave her alone. Lol I think they’re desperate for students or something.

@uckittychen my right column changed there used to be a english hold which is now gone and some financial aid stuff is there now.

okay thats whats up jb. I’m wondering if that means anything…

probably the 2 things SDSU has over UCSD are sports and…girls lol

^^ well then that’s nothing. I was thinking academic-wise. my brother was and still is ugly and fat, so neither of those things were in his reach ahah
