Anyone heard from EA Emerson?

Wondering if anyone who auditioned during November has heard yet? And if so, how? General EA notification date on Emerson’s website says December 15. I’ve heard most results are usually deferrals or nopes, with few acceptances early on, so I was hoping notifications wouldn’t come before my daughter’s opening night in HS play tonight, and it looks like I got my wish on that!

We are waiting to hear, too. I keep checking the application portal. They told us “on or before” Dec 15.

Yep, still waiting patiently here. sarcasm intended

I called admissions today - we won’t be hearing back until the end of the week.

@ybells - thanks for the head’s up - I did a bit of portal watching today. Good luck to all.

Decisions are out. It was a “no” for us.

My decision was posted! I got accepted!

Congratlations! That’s wonderful!

Congrats @idkchristian! It’s a no for my daughter. Onwards…

Congratulations @idkchristian! Please post your acceptance on BOTH lists I just started (one is organized by Member Name, the other by School Name). Keep the lists alphabetical, and follow the instructions for red font. If you are posting for yourself, please put in parentheses “M” if you’re male, “F” if you’re female. If you are posting for your son or daughter, please put, for example, “monkey13’s D.” Break legs and keep the acceptances coming!

To those who have started out the season with a “no” early on…

Please keep the faith!!! Back when my D applied, she did EA to Emerson too. She was accepted academically during the EA phase, but was deferred for the BFA in December until the regular decision round (which ultimately was a “no” in April). Her second audition to another top school was a no too. Yes, it is a hard way to start off. However, after that, she got all “yeses” and one wait list, and now has a professional career in the field. Maybe you want to share that with your kids. Keep on with it. Everyone gets “no’s” along the way!

And congrats to @idkchristian!

Thanks for that needed pep talk @soozievt . Of course the advantage of doing an early audition is getting the full and specific experience of a college audition, but the disadvantage is having that first “no” hovering over you for a couple of months until you have your next audition. As discovered last night!

I know lots of people who have gotten early “yeses” (and I add my congrats to @idkchristian) which can be a wonderful boost. But my D was one with early “thanks but no thanks” too. It stung - but it also helped light a fire under her. @rampions - and anyone else - tell your D to keep her chin up and dig into the work.

I personally know two people who got turned down everywhere – everywhere! – until April, when they each got ONE acceptance. And in both cases, that acceptance was from a top school. It’s way too early to get discouraged.

Thanks, @toowonderful - chin will rise again today or tomorrow, I’m sure, and now that all college applications are well and truly over with yes, it is time to turn full attention to the fun but hard but fun stuff: the work - which is never an issue for my daughter, who is a lives and breathes this kind of kid. Yesterday coincided with a bunch of her classmates receiving some great accepted news for regular old college EAs, so one down in the dumps even though she was happy for them evening was allowed! We have well-timed, as it turned out, tix to see the new Fiddler tonight.

Ah, daughter just emerged as I was typing this, mood seems upbeat!

And @boatmom - congrats on Hartt!

By the way, back to Emerson, specifically. The reason for the disappointment was at getting a straight “no” rather than a deferral, rather than not getting a “yes”. I had heard in past years that Emerson gave few “yes” offers but quite a few deferrals. Yet at the audition, my daughter said someone asked about deferrals and the person doing the intro session said something like “Oh, maybe, once in a while”. So who knows…

I know when I read this forum in March and April it’s going to be full of great acceptances! Albeit a few last minute crazy reversals and things you never would have thought happen will happen! That’s the way it always is!

One thing my D did after the EA deferral to Emerson in December, was to change one song for all her other auditions (she only did Emerson before the new year). Who knows if that made a difference later on, but things all turn out in the end…

We did absolutely everything wrong because we found CC too late in the game…. no coaching, no easier admit schools only big names ones on our list. Underestimated the difficulty these BFA admits are. My daughter only applied to 8 schools that required auditions. Huge mistake. My daughter was the one who received NO admits to BFA’s until one wait list that finally admitted her. Those rejections were horrible (more for me than her I think). In the end she ended up with two BFA options (one was a non auditioned BFA and the other was when she came off the wait list). In the end she ended up choosing her BA safety school and couldn’t be happier. She has created her own specialized BFA program through summer intensives, AP classes that opened up her schedule to take mostly theatre courses and she has found a new love for stage managing and design. She never would have discovered this career path if it weren’t for those rejection. IMHO If you happen to be one of those parents/students who get all rejections, there is a beautiful light at the end of this crazy tunnel. I promise. Message me for words of encouragement. I understand the feeling of wanting to jump off of a bridge by the end of this process.

I’d love to hear which summer intensives she did – if that’s not getting too off topic for this thread?

I will message you @boatmom
