Anyone heard of SAE scholarship?

I'm considering applying to some scholarships offered by SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers). You need good test scores/GPA to qualify, which I have, and have to intend to pursue an engineering degree. But I'm wondering if I should bother with this. My test scores are good, but not great, I don't have any outstanding EC's, and the essay I have to write will probably be pretty decent at best. Has anyone ever heard of the scholarships offered by SAE before? Are they highly competitive? Just wondering, because if it's a fairly well-known/competitive thing then I probably don't stand a chance. Thanks.

Always bother. You definitely won't get it if you don't apply, which means your chances increase hugely with the submission alone. Do it, and you may be surprised. Plus, essays can often be reused for other scholarship competitions.

I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, though; I'm sorry I don't have any specific information about the scholarship in question.

Anybody? It's due by Dec.1, so I'd like more input if there is anyone else out there...

Basically what I'm wondering is if this is some super-competitive and well-known scholarship that future Cal tech/MIT kids win every year...I'm guessing by lack of responses that maybe it's not? My competitiveness compared to these kids would probably be far below average, but if it's something not many apply to, or at least not the best kids apply to, I may actually have a good shot.

My MIT son was, I thought, very competitive for this scholarship. He did win one from a particular school, but not an undesignated one. They may not necessarily be looking for the student with the highest scores, etc. It's a lot of money, so I recommend that you apply. Good luck.

One more bump...

I'm applying for the SAE scholarships too. My scores aren't that high either. Put it this way, they want above 90th percentile. If your scores fall under that, then you ARE qualified. It seems to me that SAE weed out anyone lower, so anyone that falls in that range is well-qualified. So definitely apply.
