Yes, I think the 41 are the only ones who can get the $$. If 10 people go elsewhere, there would be 20 Scholars and 11 finalists.

or I could be wrong. I'll ask this weekend.

I think you are probably right, but hope is a good thing, right?

Congrats Namtrag and kid!
Sorry to burst your bubble of hope, but they dont replace those that turn down the McNair. Last year,41 were invited,33 took the various award levels.
they did not add more to bring the # up to the 40.

and I'm a she not a he! lol everyone thinks I'm a boy!!

mcnair tomorrow......woot woot!! ready for some sunshine and more southern accents!! cathymee, i'll update you on the absolute roller coaster of things that have been going on. its ridiculous. we'll see how much of a money wrench usc throws into everything!

monkey** haha funny error there...perhaps appropriate. :P

Sorry Buffalo! I don't know why I thought you were a guy, but I won't make that mistake again

Hope everyone has a great weekend down there, and best of luck to all of you, although you are already a winner either way!

My S will be looking for a roomie now. He wants to be in Maxcy

Namtrag
I should have said they DIDN'T replace the # of kids to bring it up to 40 last year, not that they DON'T replace. Who knows, maybe this year they're feeling more generous with the $$ !!
It never hurts to ask?
And don't forget, they could send info on other $$ once your S accepts admission.

Hey, if they want to give us money, who am I to complain? hehehehe

Yes, I figure sending in the housing and space-holding deposits, as well as emailing Ed Black, S's admissions counselor, will signal them that S is really coming, and then maybe he will get some more scholarship money.

This is so nice to finally know. We don't have to wait until April to hear from W&M and VT now.

I hope all of the McNair finalists are having a great time this weekend. At least it's warm down there.

We just got back from a sunny week in the Cayman Islands (Grand Cayman) to find several feet of snow -- I had hoped that it would all melt while we were gone sigh -- and the Cooper Scholars award letter for DS. Yay!

Congrats to all the scholarship recipients. Guess it IS time for some of us to invest in Gamecock apparel :)!

Way to go!

The mail is so slow from Columbia to Boise, but it finally came today with a McKissick and OOS tuition waiver for my D, very good news.

Congrats to you guys! Wow, that's a haul from USC!

I got the McKissick too!! The instate tuition does not look bad.

We have to figure out good, cheap hotels to stay at on Scholars' Day Weekend.
My wife will be coming with our S since I am a CPA and can't get off work. Hopefully you guys will all be able to put names and faces together that day.

Just remember if you meet anyone from Chesapeake, VA, that will probably be my wife Karen and son Dale.

D got McKissick today - we have already booked flights to visit SC in April (spring break here), so we will miss scholars weekend. D also accepted at UW, so hopefully we'll have their FinAid package in-hand when we come to Columbia. As parents we will be happy with either choice - as for D, she now has to make a decision between two good schools.

S received Cooper and the in-state tuition rate certainly makes it attractive. Has also received scholarships from College of Charleston, Rutgers, and UNCW. Now comes the hard part. We'll be happy with any of them.

Hopefully your visits will help you to decide. Good luck. If you have not been there yet, you are in for a treat. It is a very pretty campus and Columbia is a cool town.
Congrats to all!

Im so glad the scholarship info is coming through ...finally....
Enjoy your visits!
For the poster looking for a cheaper hotel, theres a Holiday Inn right across the street from the Koger/Coliseum block thats less expensive but its closing for renovation soon (dont know the actual date, may have closed already). Its close enough so you wouldnt need a rental car so that could save $$.Theres a discount code available from Admissions for the Columbia Marriott, but its further away from campus..but very nicely redone.Everything seemed to be within the same price range...if you'll have a car and are willing to look outside the immediate area, look for a hotel in the Harbison Blvd area..they may be cheaper.

I got a Cooper in the mail a few days ago, plus the in-state tuition thing. SC is making it even harder to decide now!

Well we commited today by sending in the housing deposit and the hold your space in the class deposit.

I guess I am a Gamecock fan now!

I will have one son at UVA and one at USC. Whew, I am glad they aren't in the same conference. It would be cool if they played each other one year while both my sons were in school.
