Anyone here get a 35 or 36 on ACT? Or know of anyone?

umm two people in my grade dominated
one got 34 first try sophomore year
another got 36 this year first try
..im third with a 33 (second try)

And...you prepared, they prepared how???

i got a 35..

1) no, I thought it was a joke
2) yea, cause it was a joke
3) none, just spent time studyin for PSAT and SAT (I had a 3-week schedule, SAT, THEN PSAT the next weekend, ACT the weekend after)
4) got the 35 first time I took it
5) not really, I thought it was a huge joke.

I got a 36 last June.

Did you consider the ACT to be "hard"?
Were you confident on all your answers?
How much prep work did you do?
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36?
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+?

1) Not really.
2) Around 98% of them
3) I worked my butt off for the SAT, took 2 practice tests for the ACT
4) None
5) Take a lot of practice tests, thats what I did for the SAT and I did well.

Anyone use the ACT for Dummies book???

Hey I got a letter today saying that from the February administration of the ACT, there were 23 perfect scores. I wonder why there are so many fewer than for the SAT...I personally thought the ACT was much easier.

My friend got a 36. He's a junior.

My other friend got a 35, as well as a full ride to Duke.

Both on their first tries.

What's their definition of a perfect score? Does 35.5 count as a perfect score, or do they mean only the 36.0ers?

I think they round up...but I got all 36s so I wouldn't know.

Got a 36. As for questions...

Did you consider the ACT to be "hard"? Not especially, in the sense that standardized tests aren't "hard" as much as they're designed to make you make stupid mistakes.
Were you confident on all your answers? Yup.
How much prep work did you do? Took a practice exam from a prep book. I think I did pretty bad on the science section.
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? First time.
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Don't get tripped up by really, really bad problem wording (Did I mention the ACT sucks?)

I was just wondering if anyone knows how many questions you have to get right in order to make a 36 on the ACT. Do you have to get them all correct?

I got a 35 last June.

Did you consider the ACT to be "hard"? No. The real issue was timing for me.
Were you confident on all your answers? No.
How much prep work did you do? A bunch of practice tests.
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36? 1

Go over the grammar concepts again, even if you think you know them.
Do A LOT of practice tests.

To get a 36, you don't need to get all the questions right. You just need an average of 35.5. Since the curve varies from test to test, it's hard to approximate the number of questions you can miss to get a 36. But I would estimate it to be about 2-3.

I wonder how many people are lying about their 36s...

Thanks!
That will really help me when I do my practice tests.

I got a 35 in the April one that just passed.

No

Mostly, except the last few on Science-- I was short of time.

None. Well, I'd done a lot of PSAT practices before last October. I think for grammar and writing, practice is necessary, while for reading, practice tests won't help too much.

Once, 2 years ago, 29

My math and science stayed around the same as they were 2 years ago, so I can only tell you how I improved on reading (24-->36). Take AP Histories (note: plural), which basically means READ READ READ. And did I mention read?

sister got a 35.

I received a 36 from the April test date

36 Math/Science, 35 Reading/Writing, 10 Essay

1) Definitely not, it was extremely straightforward and I felt like it was simply testing my intelligence as opposed to my ability to notice BS like on the SAT
2) I was 100% confident in my math/science ones, and 98% or so on my reading and writing (I obviously missed 1 or 2 on each)
3) None, I literally went into the test blind, relaxed, and just took it for what it was worth
4) 0
5) Don't stress out, RELAX, and know that unlike the SAT, the ACT is not trying to screw you over :-)

aaaand if you don't believe me:

it was a nice b-day present :-)

Hi PatrickK

I took the ACT on April 14 and scored a composite score of 35. (to my surprise)

Did you consider the ACT to be "hard"? No, Science was kinda time consuming though
Were you confident on all your answers? Most of them
How much prep work did you do? One Week
How many time had you taken the ACT before you got the 35/36?None, but I did take the SAT, and was dissappointed with my score. So this was a definite uplifting for me.
Do you have any tips for me to get a score of 34+? Practice the format, especially science, and also do some timed tests. For a lot of students, just like myself, time usually kills.

darkknight, I wish you luck.

I wish I could score 33 or higher. My best is a 30. But this is without buckling down and studying. I WILL get a 33 or higher!

I got a 35 (R/E 36, S 34, M 33, W 11/12) as did one other girl in my class. As far as I've heard, we were the only two even in the 30s out of about 200 (which I found very odd, but maybe that's just me?)

1) Not the questions themselves, but timing was tricky.
2) Most of them, except for in science, where I went too slow at first and had to rush at the end to get done.
3) Nothing until about a month ahead of time, then a full-length practice test in class and extra work with the Kaplan's computer program in science and math (after realizing those were my weakest). It definitely helped, mostly for the sake of improving my speed and refreshing my memory on the math problems I hadn't done since jr. high.
4) It was my first time.
5) Take a full-length test or two to figure out your weaknesses, then focus in on them. On the Reading, if you can, I'd suggest looking at the questions first, then going back and trying to pick out the answers, rather than reading the passages all the way through (most of my friends who did that ran out of time). For English, on the parts where you have to correct the grammar, don't bother reading the entire passages, again for the sake of time. Just focus on exactly what you need to know to answer the question. For Math, if you're like me and are up to pre-Calc or so, you'll know how to do all the problems: the issue is remembering back. I'd definitely suggest taking some time to refresh yourself. For Science, what helped me the most was, for each new section, first circling where I was supposed to find each answer from (almost every question will say something like "in diagram 1" or "looking at experiments 2 and 3".) Not only did this save time, it helped me to avoid one of the ACT's favorite traps: giving a true answer that didn't come from the place they were referring to. If you're taking the Writing section, make sure you're staying strictly to what the prompt is asking, and try to throw out some specific stats if you can (I talked about Pres. Polk in mine; strange but true!) They definitely seem to be impressed if you can pull solid facts out of your head in such a limited, high-pressure time, so it could definitely boost your score.

Good luck!
