anyone in BC calculus this year.

How are they ahead? I have one chapter left?

We started out with Area/Volume, then did a review chapter, then a new chapter, then two old chapters, then a new chapter, and we are finishing two review chapters. That's why it seems weird, we aren't just going straight throguh the course (like limits, derivatives, application of derivatives, integrals, etc etc)

It seems like most everyone else is on area/volume, which we did the first week. Slope fields he just teaches when we do review since it's not that difficult.

No offense, I just can't see how they are ahead when all I have left is vectors and I'll be done well before spring break.

We did areas/volumes over a month ago...

Did you guys do the converging/diverging unit?...we are still on that and its been 2 weeks. Pretty big unit.

im with mike, i barely study and it shows on my tests haha

lets see...we have done a lot so far...its a laid back class though

We also have one chapter left, but no one in my school took AB last year. I don't understand how we do AB AND BC in the same time you do basically just BC.

If you are talking about the chapter on series, which is what I guess from your previous post, it is a rather lengthy chapter.

We don't do "just" BC, as I said we do go over AB, just faster. Since we've already learned derivatives and integrals, it's a review and sections we found difficult last year are easier.

How much faster do you think we should go? We are going to have 9 weeks to review for the AP exam. I don't really think my teacher or our class deserves criticism because we haven't finished yet even though we had AB last year. It just makes parts easier for us. Plus, some students weren't as good in AB, so it's harder for them and thus the pace is a bit slower. (This is relatively speaking, all but 1/14 got 4s or 5s on the exam).

Also, our teacher actually grades homework and goes over it, which is good for some bad for others. If he didn't do that I'm sure we would be done, but that takes 10-20 minutes a class depending on how easy/hard the assignment is. He also goes over every question on the quizzes and tests. Additionally, he sets aside 2ish days for every chapter for review for the test, using old AP questions from the chapter.

If he wanted, he could just not grade homework, not review for tests, not go over the quizzes, but I think that because he does his students appreciate him and actually LEARN calculus and have to work to get an A. We also don't have much EC, normally a few points on a quiz or test but that's it.

Personally, calculus is one of my favorite subjects and I'm sure a lot of it has to do with my teacher. He pushes me to do better and challenges me everyday. After reading many posts on CC about how much people hate BC/Calc II, I feel very fortunate.

Sure, I could have done BC only in one year. But, I wouldn't do it if I had the choice. I have had the honor of having this teacher two years and it has really changed my perspective on math. I've always been a math person, I never liked it until last year, but I was a math person, and having him for AB changed everything. Plus, it's a requirement at my school to do AB first. Besides, I would have no math (except AP Stats...ugh) my senior year, which means I would go a year between hgih school and college with nothing going in my brain. And I need math. Stats doesn't feel like a math class to me, it's more reasoning. And, I'll admit it, I need calculus =).

Overall, I think it's pointless for you to "not understand" how we've done mostly BC stuff in the same time you do AB and BC, because all in all, I don't regret it. And I can easily get college credit for this and go on to do well, because I have a stronger foundation in calculus and didn't rush through the curriculum. Plus, what would we have done with an extra semester? There's only so much review you can do. Especially once you are missing only a couple MC and a few points on FRQ.

Please don't act like "everyone" is ahead of us if it is only you.

Also, I'm curious to know the order of topics you have covered and what you have covered so far.

No need to get defensive about your freaking calculus class.

Like I said, it was JUST AN OBSERVATION.

Sorry, I just wanted to set the record straight. =).

And I will get defensive about my calculus class, because I love it, sorry if that offends you.

It's fine to like it, but I was only making an observation and it seemed like you were taking it as a personal attack or something.

We have started convergence tests, and will move on to polar equations, vectors, and partial derivatives later.

To LifeUnholding:

For the order of the class...
Well, you took AB last year, and Im sure you followed the same sequence as we did last semester.
For BC this semeste (its only been 3 weeks), we started with series and sequences, then divergence and convergence, also comparison tests, integral tests, p-series, and limit comparison tests. I'm not sure what we are doing next, cause my teacher sometimes skips...or goes back to chapters. You're probably covering the same material, but at a slower pace...so you'll probably understand it 10x more than me by the time of the AP test.

Yeah, we just did convergence test for improper integrals. We still have to do:

Chapter on series
Chapter on polar/vector calculus
Slope fields/Euler's method

Just did slope fields and now onto the area between two curves.

we finished everthing in AB completly and now up to sequences and series with all those damn tests to see if it converges or diverges. We just learned the ratio test.
